Question : How can a "guest" post on the forum ? I was under the impression that you had to be logged in to post.

Question #2: What's with all the personal advertising in the blogs ?
I see one for an attorney and another one for Avon. ???

You do have to be logged in to post.

Those "Details for exception..." topics are created by the system and so are not under that restriction.

This forum software allows a name other than "guest" to be used on anonymous posts so when I copied the topics from the old forum, the posts by members who are no longer members were set to anonymous and their old username was set for that post. Unfortunately, this forum software dropped the ball in that "guest" is still shown for those posts under some specific circumstances: when quoting one of those posts (shows "Guest wrote" ) and on the list of topics page, the "Topic starter" column will show "Guest".

Or you might have seen some old posts in the "MyCopper Feedback" forum from during beta. At the start of beta, guest posting was enabled. It got disabled some time later.

Jeff, could you also clarify why advertising is allowed on the blogs ?
I see one there for Avon....... another for a legal group.
Is this acceptable or did they just sneak in ?

Looking at the terms, I don't see advertising listed as unacceptable content. Why do you think it should not be acceptable? Maybe it's something the "bigwigs" didn't think of.

Jeff, Just my opinion...

I have seen other similar forums where people have also have ads for cosmetics, vitamins, and even some products that I'd call 'snake oil'.

But the worst is where people put all these ads in their siggies in the forum, repeated again and again with every post. It just seems to 'junk up' the forum.

I'd strongly suggest that Copper admin develop some kind of advertising rules, and as for me, I'd rather not have them in forum. Perhaps limiting advertising to the blogs would be somewhat of a compromise.
