I am throwing this out to see if any of you think it has any logic to it.

I have termites and in my interest because of it I have learned a few facts? and so I was thinking if this could possibly work.
First I bought the termidor stakes and they were warded off pretty until I needed more. The termite stakes are roughly 6to8 inches long. It said that termites don't go below that into the dirt, keep that in mind.

I also read that termites can't go through sand. They also can't be exposed to sunlight which is why they build tubes above ground. So here's what I am thinking. I was going to dig a 3 inch ditch around the house up against it's walls and pour termidor as directed but it is very caustic and in some states you need to be licensed and go through classes to apply it. Not to mention mixing in 5 gallon buckets and applying is messy and dangerous for an old lady like me.

Well, what if I dug a 6to8 inch trench around my house and fill the trench with sand, wouldn't that eliminate the termites from entering?
What am I missing here? can it be that easy?

Hi! I don't if the sand idea would work, but if it did, you could help our country go green with less money, amazing idea hun, I hope it works!

Your idea certainly sounds logical. I don't recommend any elderly person digging a deep ditch around a house unless it is a very small house. Even then, it might be better to pay some younger person to do that job.
It is going to take quite a bit of sand to fill up such a ditch so be prepared for that expense. I don't think that is going to have to be a very wide ditch...perhaps two to three inches wide would be ample.
That is still going to require a large supply of sand and a lot of digging.

If you can find someone to do that job at a price you can afford then go for it.
Otherwise give some consideration to what that could cost you if you try to do it yourself and wind up tearing a ligament or displacing any part of your anatomy.

Approach this experiment with caution if you are going to do it yourself.

BRAVO for your intelligence and creativity.

Here's hoping this works.

Please let us all know your results.

Thank you for responding to my plea, lol. I would dig the trench slowly. I wonder how expensive sand is. I will check that out. That could be done slowly also.
Robert, This is a serious subject with the need for a serious opinion, leave it to you to lighten it up, tee heed'oh! d'oh!

Don't forget the gate so that the termites that live in/under the house can go on vacation once in a while. Be sure to post notices where they can see when you open the gate...Laugh OhMyGod ThumbsUp

Cute very cute, lol, The ones in the house or under the house would die cuz they wouldn't be able to get to their water source, they have to have water. With my idea, once in they can't get out for water, once out they can't get in. Any more suggestions or ideas?

Moose,

You are so right again. But I wonder why someone would be so mean to their house pets as to deprive them of water. The height of mean!
