My dial-up was some slower over the weekend and Tuesday it was just terrible. Don't think it is Copper because it is just as bad or worse when I try to use Google.

Checked all of my updates and ran all my scans and ran c-cleaner...all that did absolutely no good.

Am very suspicious.

I only get auto updates from Microsoft and FF. (Do the rest manually every day.) For the last FOUR days in a row, I got some updates... (it doesn't tell me what) 'serious' enough to cause an auto re-start over night. So I'm suspicious that is the cause of my slowdown.

Maybe it is the same auto-update that is not installing right and it is d/L it over and over. Then that d/l could be slowing down my dial-up....

Anyone else having new slow-down problems since about Sunday??? Anybody else getting these re-start updates FOUR days in a row???

You should be able to find out what the MS updates are. IIRC, on WinXP you go into add/remove software and there is a checkbox marked something like "show everything". When checked it will show all the updates, when they occured and a cryptic number. You will probably have to go into the MS knowledge base to link that number to what the update was actually about. But Google should be able to guide you in that. Somebody else can probably give you more details about it. TMK, FF updates update the whole thing so you can tell about updates by looking at the version listed in Help -> About.

BTW, I thought on Microsoft systems, almost all updates caused a system reboot. (In Linux, for example, most updates do not require a reboot.)

Not so. Some, but by no means all.

Yes, I noticed the computer was going as slow as molasses. I had about four hours worth of work to do and couldn't get much of it accomplished. It has only started connecting faster and working faster these past two days. I too, tried the cleaners, did a defrag, cleared out the cache, but the problem persisted. It was a drag!Sad

My computer has also been really slow! I am still dealing with IE7 freezes also. Disabled add-ons, etc, etc, etc. to no avail. It is dragging no matter what my connection rate is. Cleared temp files, cookies, history, etc. Anybody figure out what is going on yet? Any help would be appreciated. It is driving me crazy! DEEP BREATH! AHHHH Linda

My internet (using internet explorer Tried 6, 7, 8) connection to Copper took a dive when the new home page was introduced. After 3 calls with symptoms of page splitting into 1, 2 page columns, and adding errors on each new page. And slower than molasses the longer I was on and upon returning to connection often times error out. If these sound familiar on dial up all is not lost. Copper don't come out and say it up front but, the answer is firefox (35mb) browser and sun java script(16mb), these are free downloads off the internet and somewhat large for dialup but now I am flying and no problems. This worked super and I run 4 computers at different places and all are now running smooth. Go to a friends house or library to download these programs and install on yours. I'm not promoting these in any way but only because they solved my problem.

I am now convinced that the problems I had around Nov 14-18 were caused by AVG-free. I no longer recommend that anyone use it. Right now my computer is running much better, but still not as good as it was running around Nov 1-13. Kim Komando now recommends the free anti-virus and anti-spyware from Microsoft.

Try these suggestions which made an amazing improvement in my computer:

I also have AVG Free, what exactly was the problem with it and how did you decide that that was causing your problem? Before I switch, I'd like to be sure. Thanks
