This is the first Thanksgiving I can remember that Turkeys were advertised on sale 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Maybe even 3 weeks? They started a week ago last Wednesday for 43 cents a pound. That is the usual price they go for before The big Thursday. Not sure if it has anything to do with the strike that started today or not. I sure hope that doesn't mean they are going to go up next week. I can't buy a turkey more then a week before as I thaw it in the frig. for a week, more then that would be risky.

I guess I will be steaming my turkey again this year. My oven hasn't worked for several years now and My turkey roaster went out the window finally after 40 years, (nesco's are so reliable).
So, although it works to steam it, it takes more time as I have to brown it in a small oven I have after steaming it. I have to cut up the turkey into smaller pieces after steaming it in order for it to fit in the small roaster to brown it. It all seems a lot of trouble, aye? It's just that Turkey is so cheap and I love the dressing and giblets including neck especially not to mention it feeds a lot of cats, tee hee. I did charcoal broil it on year and that turned out ok but there is something really nice about being able to set it and forget as in roasting or steaming, not so with charcoaling it, lol. The problem is I loaded up my freezer and frig. not to long ago and my head must have been empty as now I have to figure out how to store the turkey. My daughter will be coming in for Christmas and will want to take some with her. I sure have a mess to deal with when I only needed to think it through before hand, oh well. Such is life.Boo hoo! Boo hoo! HAPPY HAPPY EVERYONE!!

43 cents a pound! Wow! Safeway up here is 88 cents, Raley's 89. I hope I can find one a bit less than that but...I wonder how many turkeys I would have to transport and sell by the roadside to make the trip down to AZ worthwhile?

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Weezie will still have a great feast in spite of all of those obstacles. Whatever you do with that turkey is going to be absolutely delicious and will be gratefully appreciated by all who sit at your table this year.

If your oven has been broken for some time now, is it possible that the rest of your stove isn't operating efficiently either? This might be a good year to replace that item. There are some very good sales being advertised in this area. Replacing worn out appliances will also reduce your utility bills too....
Just a suggestion. Maybe you can give yourself an early Christmas present?

Whatever happens may your Thanksgiving be a happy one!

Mwala, you must be talking fresh? These are frozen, I don't think I have ever had a fresh. This week they are down to 37cents a pound. I am glad, many people will be donating to the needy at that price. Depends on where you are, you might be able to make a killing but then most have a limit, lol.

Henrietta, that was such a sweet post, my burners work fine, gas here. If I get the 250 the pres. promised I might spring for one but then if I can find a turkey roaster at the thrift store I will go that route and maybe buy a side by side instead. The lightning took my frig last year and I miss all the space it had. We have a local appliance store that sells rebuilt. I can get a side by side for 250. Can't beat it even with a stick. My cats will be my only visitors at the table this year but I am so grateful to have another year with them, they fill my life with love and laughter!! An added bonus is that they eat me outta house and home, lol. You write so eliquently Hen. I so wish for you the same as you wished for me and many many more years to celebrate!!

That's right, I was glancing at the prices. It says fresh. The frozen ones are likely less. They are being sold per turkey with varying weights. They would come out closer to the prices you quoted.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your cats. Sometimes I miss the little cat I had...well...fifteen years ago now. I considered getting one where I live now, but I have a major highway in my backyard. I would not like to keep a cat indoors all the time, I would like less to have my pet flattened trying to cross four lanes of 65 mph.
My stepson was looking over my shoulder the other day. He was quite taken with your licking cat picture.

weezie, nice cascading picture effect. Next time consider turning those dashes (--------) into white text by changing the font color - same as I did in your quote above. ThumpUp

Thanks Guy, I use that idea when I am afraid I forget an answer to one of the games. I post it in white so I can always refer to it. It is a clever trick.

Thank you very much for the well wishes, I wish the same and more for you! As to a cat, They are so much safer in the house. I have both and if possible will always keep them in, hopefully no dangers for them inside. I hope someday you will reconsider. We need animals in our lives and they surely need us. The shelters are suffering so these days with the need to find them homes.happy
