Lyme Disease

Definition

By Mayo Clinic staff

Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness that causes signs and symptoms ranging from rash, fever, chills and body aches to joint swelling, weakness and temporary paralysis. Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. Deer ticks, which feed on the blood of animals and humans, can harbor the disease and spread it when feeding.

You’re more likely to get Lyme disease if you live or spend time in the grassy and heavily wooded areas where ticks carrying the disease breed. It’s important to take common-sense precautions in areas where Lyme disease is prevalent. If treated with appropriate antibiotics in the early stages of the disease, you’ll most likely recover completely. However, some people have recurring or lingering symptoms long after the infection has cleared.

Lyme Disease

Symptoms

By Mayo Clinic staff

Lyme disease signs and symptoms vary widely because Lyme disease can affect various parts of the body. Not everyone with the disease will have all of the signs and symptoms. But in general, Lyme disease can cause:

Rash. A small, red bump may appear within a few days to a month, often at the site of the tick bite — often in your groin, belt area or behind your knee. It may be warm to the touch and mildly tender. Over the next few days, the redness expands, forming a rash that may be as small as your fingertip or as large as 12 inches (30 centimeters) across. It often resembles a bull’s-eye, with a red ring surrounding a clear area and a red center. The rash, called erythema migrans, is one of the hallmarks of Lyme disease, affecting about 70 percent to 80 percent of infected people. If you’re allergic to tick saliva, redness may develop at the site of a tick bite. The redness usually fades within a week. This is not the same as erythema migrans, which tends to expand and get redder over time.

Flu-like symptoms. A fever, chills, fatigue, body aches and a headache may accompany the rash.

Migratory joint pain. If the infection is not treated, you may develop bouts of severe joint pain and swelling several weeks to months after you’re infected. Your knees are especially likely to be affected, but the pain can shift from one joint to another.

Neurological problems. In some cases, inflammation of the membranes surrounding your brain (meningitis), temporary paralysis of one side of your face (Bell’s palsy), numbness or weakness in your limbs, and impaired muscle movement may occur weeks, months or even years after an untreated infection. Memory loss, difficulty concentrating, and changes in mood or sleep habits also can be symptoms of late-stage Lyme disease.

Less common signs and symptoms. Some people may experience heart problems — such as an irregular heartbeat — several weeks after infection, but this rarely lasts more than a few days or weeks. Eye inflammation, hepatitis and severe fatigue are possible as well.

I know several people who have effectively treated Lyme disease whit a product called Samento. The liquid form is far superior to the capsules and can be found by Google. I do not have Lyme, but use it to prevent Colds and Flu. I take it daily and have not had either in the past five years. Before I started using it I was highly susceptible.

$32 for a 1 oz bottle is the cheapest I have found in small quantities. For Lyme it is suggested to start with 1 or 2 drops per day. I take 15 and a bottle lasts about 6 weeks.

If you use it for Lyme, you must be patient, as it can take several months to become Lyme free, but it does work.

I’ve been receiving daily i.v. of a medicine called Ceftriaxone. Don’t ask me to pronounce it.

Tomorrow is my last dosage and my PICC Line will be removed. I hope they will never have to insert it ever again.

Clueless isn’t he? He likes to stalk and harass.

But to answer, I was tested for MS and did test positive in one of the tests. I explained this a while ago and if paps had done his reading he would know this.

Also MS and Lyme Disease mimic each other, along with other illnesses. Again had paps read the posts he would know this, but again he likes to stalk and harass.

And had paps read the posts he would know that there is no sure fire test for MS, Lyme Disease, or other diseases that mimic them, except after death when an autopsy is performed.

But paps doesn’t want to learn, he wants to stalk and harass. Such a pitiful waste.

That is certainly a really great health plan that is currently taking care of you, isn't it Lieris?

Still no real diagnosis of what ails you?

How long do you suppose its going to take?

See other topics on this forum for details about the health plan that I have belonged to for the past 55 years.
Before I was given health benefits from my job, I PAID for this health plan out of my own pocket. I will continue with this plan for as long as possible. If it wasn't any good, I wouldn't have continued with my plan for 55 years!
I only hope that the nanny government will not take away my right to have the health plan that works for me.

It might be good idea to avoid GRAPEFRUIT disease as well!

Could it be you have Medicare and don't want others have it?

If that's the case, it's mighty stingy of you old girl.

Under the present plans that are being considered, Medicare funds are being cut while more people are going to be enrolled.
Can you explain how less money is going to provide care for more people?

The nanny government is already threatening the lives of women by rationing mammograms and telling us that we don't need that preventative care until we are fifty...if we live that long!
Many women who are alive today, owe their lives to the fact that a mammogram revealed that they had breast cancer and were treated early enough for that disease to save their lives.

ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF RATIONING CARE THAT WILL RESULT IN MORE PEOPLE DYING?

Erectile dysfunction is not being considered as an unnecessary treatment is it?
ED does NOT kill anybody.
Breast cancer does!
Why aren't the men being singled out to have their medical care rationed?

AS A WOMAN, DO YOU FAVOR THE RATIONING OF CARE THAT WILL SAVE LIVES WHILE STILL PROVIDING TREATMENTS FOR AILMENTS THAT ARE NOT FATAL?

All senior citizens on Social Security do have Medicare.
Of course you know that already.
None of us was given a choice in that matter.

My husband and I both worked until he died and I became to ill to continue working.
Money was deducted from both of our paychecks to pay for Social Security and Medicare.
Neither of us objected to doing our share when it was our turn to be supportive.
My husband died before he was able to collect his Social Security.

All of our lives, we paid for our health insurance to provide for ourselves and our family.
Our priorities included that health insurance and buying our house (which was built in 1920 and located in a working middle class neighborhood)....
We did not buy a car (second hand) until 1970!
We took our first vacation in 1974.
Extravagance was not part of our life style.
Our first and only color television was purchased when our nine year old son was confined to bed for two months while recovering from a car accident. We paid for a caretaker to be with our boy while we were both working too.

Don't you dare call me stingy you twerp!

I am spelling your so-called name right...LIE-ris!
Why do you continue to hide behind a fake name?
What are you afraid of?

Gee you're so not funny. I bet you make fun of people with other chronic diseases, and maybe quadriplegics really make you laugh.

Not too classy henny.
