I also notice that I have not raised the ire of anyone here for dragging the subject away from sermonetts: perhaps what we have been discussing is appropriate subject for sermonetts. Let’s stay here for the time being. Jerry, when you think critically about anything, say chicken and egg, or father and son, or anything that demands an answer to its beginnings; our answer is simply we don’t know an answer. Something must have started our solar system, our galaxy, the big bang, formation of earth and on and on. An atheist, in the sense that there is no God or Gods, would say it just occurred by happenstance or probability. one might assume it was started by a theistic God. I am using the term theistic God as one would think of the Christian God. About a year ago, as I was questioning the existence of a theistic God I came to the idea that such a God could consist of knowledge we just don’t have at this time. And, the change in the God of the bible over time is a reflection of man’s growing knowledge. Think of the differing character of God in the old and new testement, for one example. The other startling fact is based on cosmology. We now understand how the heavier elements are manufactured by stars and how stars expel these elements into space. eventually, these elements converged to form our solar system, earth, and all life forms. Two thoughts are brought to the forefront here. A lessor idea to my mind is to question how this all happened. A more primary idea would seem to be how close all lifeforms and earth are: we are all made of star-stuff, including everything in the universe! What a startling idea! We are all in this time and space together! This makes me look at others in a very different way from my previous religious divisive thoughts learned from organized religiosity. Doesn’t this thought just fill your soul or spirit with love for all and everything? Call this what you will depending on your reference of geography, culture, and time frame; but it sure has a Godlike nature to me. Note that I am not thinking pantheism here: all is not God. I think what I’ve discussed here is knowledge that is not known to us is one property of God and the generation of heavy elements of which our planets, moon and life forms are made calls us to the idea of we are of one. Why couldn’t that one be the source of love or equivalently, a property of God. Gotta go... In my mind there is no doubt as to which came first, the chicken or the egg. It is the chicken. However I understand that I come to that conclusion because of my belief in a creator. Can an egg create itself? When I open my refrigerator door, does the egg say I am going to be an omelet or an ingredient in a pancake? No, I become the creator and make use of the ingredients at hand to make whatever I wish, which is what God has done.
Now the question arises of how do I know there is a God. I admit that this requires a small leap of faith. What is faith? Faith is to hope for things which are not seen, but which are true (Heb. 11: 1; Alma 32: 21), and must be centered in Jesus Christ in order to produce salvation. To have faith is to have confidence in something or someone. The Lord has revealed himself and his perfect character, possessing in their fulness all the attributes of love, knowledge, justice, mercy, unchangeableness, power, and every other needful thing, so as to enable the mind of man to place confidence in him without reservation. Faith is kindled by hearing the testimony of those who have faith (Rom. 10: 14-17). Miracles do not produce faith but strong faith is developed by obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ; in other words, faith comes by righteousness, although miracles often confirm one’s faith. Faith is a principle of action and of power, and by it one can command the elements and/or heal the sick, or influence any number of circumstances when occasion warrants (Jacob 4: 4-7). Even more important, by faith one obtains a remission of sins and eventually can stand in the presence of God. All true faith must be based upon correct knowledge or it cannot produce the desired results. Faith in Jesus Christ is the first principle of the gospel and is more than belief, since true faith always moves its possessor to some kind of physical and mental action; it carries an assurance of the fulfillment of the things hoped for. A lack of faith leads one to despair, which comes because of iniquity. Although faith is a gift, it must be cultured and sought after until it grows from a tiny seed to a great tree. The effects of true faith in Jesus Christ include 1. an actual knowledge that the course of life one is pursuing is acceptable to the Lord (see Heb. 11: 4); 2. a reception of the blessings of the Lord that are available to man in this life; and 3. an assurance of personal salvation in the world to come. These things involve individual and personal testimony, guidance, revelation, and spiritual knowledge. Where there is true faith there are miracles, visions, dreams, healings, and all the gifts of God that he gives to his saints. Jesus pointed out some obstacles to faith in John 5: 44 and John 12: 39-42 (cf. James 1: 6 ).Other references to faith include JST Gen. 14: 26-36; Rom. 10: 14-17; 2 Cor. 5: 7; Eph. 2: 8-9; Heb. 11: 1-40; James 2: 14-26; 1 Pet. 1: 8-9; Enos 1: 6 ; Alma 32; Moro. 10: 11; D&C 46: 13-16.
You exercised faith when you said that you felt that we should leave our posts on this thread. As you said, "as the spirit moves". If we have the desire to find truth on any subject and exercise an appropriate amount of faith, the Holy Ghost or Spirit will teach us. When we reject the truth He teaches, He withdraws from us and leaves us to ourselves.
Let me suggest to you that within each of us is a spirit that looks like us but is of a more refined and pure matter. Each of us is a spirit child of God. He is quite knowable. The more faith we exercise the more we can know Him. We can in fact come to a point that we become as Moses for example who spoke with God face to face. The reality is that very few ever exercise that degree of faith.
All life was spiritual and was found in Heaven before it was placed on earth as we find in Moses 3:4-7
4 And now, behold, I say unto you, that these are the generations of the heaven and of the earth, when they were created, in the day that I, the Lord God, made the heaven and the earth, 5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew. For I, the Lord God, created all things, of which I have spoken, spiritually, before they were naturally upon the face of the earth. For I, the Lord God, had not caused it to rain upon the face of the earth. And I, the Lord God, had created all the children of men; and not yet a man to till the ground; for in heaven created I them; and there was not yet flesh upon the earth, neither in the water, neither in the air; 6 But I, the Lord God, spake, and there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 7 And I, the Lord God, formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul, the first flesh upon the earth, the first man also; nevertheless, all things were before created; but spiritually were they created and made according to my word.
I have to go now...be back in a bit.

SERMONETTE - THE IMPORTANCE OF READING, UNDERSTANDING AND PRESENTING FACTS dajcat, it is high time you realized that people are getting annoyed, disturbed and confused by what you are saying. You interrupt teachings of others to put your own spin on their beliefs. You distort historical evidence and fabricate stories about the Catholic Church and tell everyone it is God's Word when it is another false teaching of yours. Here is evidence of what others have to say, as well as your own words which condemn you:
A. REBUTTALS ON POSTS #941, #943, #964, #967, #971 & #1018 ON CATHOLIC TRUTHS STARTING HERE
B. DISTORTING HISTORY, FABRICATING STORIES & BAITING 1. Post #952 Quote from dajcat: "While Roman Catholics place high value on their liturgy and sacramental system, it is incorrect to say that they believe they are "saved by works." This is the third time you brought this issue up on the Catholic Truths thread attacking our doctrine. What spirit greatly troubles you that you have to dump post after post trying to deny God's Word? Christ gave us His conditions for salvation. He proclaimed it in over 70 verses in Holy Scripture that works are necessary for salvation. Why are you trying to deny it and denounce the Catholic Church for teaching what Christ commanded? Are you better than Christ? What are your credentials to pontificate to Catholics besides owning 3 Bibles and not knowing how to read them? True Christians accept all of Christ's conditions. False prophets twist His Word to suit their comfort level.
2. Post #1010 Quote from dajcat: “He who rejects which church Firebird.? Jesus did not give authority to the RCC. The RCC took it upon themselves to declare that . His church was in existence in other parts of the world that were not part of the RCC... History shows the Catholic Church was in existence since AD 100. Check out all the evidence in the thread on Catholic Truths.
3. Post #1011 Quote from dajcat: “….there is only one church.and many branches. Christ is the Church and each denomination a branch. Yours included Firebird… This is bullcr*p. Christ never established or authorized denominations. You do not know how to read or interpret Scriptures. So you invent fairy tales.
4. Post #1013 Quote from dajcat: “I guess your Ted Kennedy was exempt from that law of divorce and remarry eh Firebird. “ Baiting is a vile trait. Get a life!
C. COMMENTS FROM OTHER POSTERS
1. Post #1016 from nicolini on Catholic Truths thread David, did you not rebuke me one time for calling other people out on their actions? (remember the lost thread I posted asking others to share a bad exprience of going to churches that propagate rediculous emotional calamities in the name of sheep stealing? (They Pushed My Head!).
Ted Kennedy will be subject to his life before God just like You...everyone else who ever came into this earth via our mommies or test tubes. That was a dig.
You know, The guy who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart wasn't a Catholic.....Could we call him a Protestant? Look how wonderful HE was! And let's not forget Jeffrey Dahmer? There's a real winner. Now I know where that Prostestant church got their Famous Bar B Q'd Ribs!
2. Quote from rorussell on 11 August 2008, P. 31 of the Keys of the Kingdom thread Dajcat, you don’t speak truth. You speak garbage. You wouldn’t know the truth if it smacked you between the eyes. If anything you say is true, it is purely coincidental. I’m tired of your rudeness and disrespect. You haven’t framed one coherent thought since you started flinging your nonsense on this forum. Russ
3. Quote from emcyay2000 on p. 8 of March 8 2009 on Catholics & Heresies Dajcat, if you are wondering why Fr. Donnelly said what he said, why don’t you write or call him? My guess is he did say why, but you latched onto select comments to start an argument, not an honest debate.

nice try Firebird but it won't work. Call out your army call out your inquisitors you will not stop me no matter how hard you try. Convince the whole world and i will still have God on my side. I have never lampooned or denounced the R. Catholic church. I have answered your postings with biblical evidence.I have not called you a liar or a popeist or a Maryist . I do not deny you the right to believe as you want, to worship as you want. What you want me to do is shut up. I cannot blame you for not liking my posts I don't like your posts regarding Protestant denominations either but that is something we both must live with . Instead of ranting and raving and trying to prove me a liar why don't you just accept my right to disagree with you. You really are out of touch with the common RC wether you want to believe it or not.You pull out select sentences from my threads not posting the whole/ .not only my threads but others as well. I answered Nic with truth and honesty even encouraging her to rebuke me if i lampooned someone in the Confessional. . I noticed you didn't post my part of that thread. ro russell is gone. You yourself keep saying that we can not privatlly interpret the bible yet you praised Ro highly even tho he admitted never having any association with a christian denomination and all his interpretations were his own. You latch on with anyone . i gave you RC evidence that you as a RC have no fellowship with a mormon but because of the worm in your stomach you continue to favor him over your fellow christian. Every one of those threads you pulled up are from RC'c only ro's is not. Who are you to say that Jesus did not authorize protestant denominations? He authorized His church not the Roman Catholic Church. I feel the same way that Jerry thinks. God got sick of your shinnanigans and started the reformation thinking you might step back into line. You will , mark my words. Secretly at first but openly as your people realize that theRC church is not God's only church. . There are over 15000 RC priests that have been denied or defrocked because they have married. Who knows how many more not keeping celibate.? Don't ask me for sources ,you would say they were nothing but lies anyway. No source according to you is a true source unless it is a RC source and even then if it doesn't fit your mind set you resist it. So here to you Firebird is my Sermonette for today. Heed it or reject it I couldn't care less. dajcat

A FRIEND PASSES-- By the time you read this, perhaps you will have heard of the death of a good friend of mine and yours as well. His name is "Common Sense".
In mourning the passing of our friend, Common Sense, we come to the realization that he had been our friend a long time. Since he had no birth certificate, I cannot say how old he was. But sometimes birth certificates and other important papers get lost in bureaucratic red tape, for one reason or another. I will remember Common Sense teaching me to come out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, That life is not always fair, and that maybe it was some of my fault things happened the way they did. Oh well!!
Common sense lived by simple financial rules (do not spend more than you earn) and reliable, respectable parental strategies (adults, not children are in charge).
Common Sense's health began to decline when overbearing regulations were set in place; such as a six year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, kids suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly child in the classroom.
Common Sense's condition worsened when parents attacked teachers for attempting to discipline students because the parents failed to rule. His condition further worsened when he learned schools required to get parental consent to give a student an aspirin but were not allowed to inform the parents or parent, their child was pregnant and wanted to abort the pregnancy.
Common Sense's condition became critical when the Ten Commandments became secondhand stuff and we wrote 200,000 laws and opinions to replace simple rules, like honor God, rest one day a week, honor mom and dad, don't kill, don't lie- cheat - or steal and don't want what is not yours to have. His heartbeat became irregular when he saw churches became businesses and criminals had more rights and were better treated than the victims of crime were. And you could be sued when defending yourself from a criminal act. Your business could be destroyed by vandals and passed off as "they are young and did not know any better". Their tailored lies are accepted - surely they will not bother society again?
"Common Sense passed away" during the time a customer failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled some on her lap, sued, and was awarded a large settlement for drinking hot coffee in a vehicle and spilling it.
"Common Sense" was preceded in death by his parents, "Truth and Trust", his wife, "Discretion", and his daughter, "Responsibility" and son, "Honesty.
Attending his gracesite services were his three step-brothers, "I know my rights", "I was not there" and "Someone told me I could go in!".
In your busy schedules, slow down for a spell and remember our friend "Common Sense!". It's the right thing to do!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA - KEEP IT STRONG.

a good posting Sally but like the myth that "God is dead" so is the myth that "Common Sense is Dead" . Common Sense is alive and well when you heed the words "only a fool says there is no God". Common Sense is alive when you hear His words "IAM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER BUT BY ME". Common Sense is alive when you heed His words "THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER gODS BUT ME". Common Sense is alive when you read " NO MAN BUILDS HIS HOUSE ON A BED OF SAND BUT UPON A ROCK and IAM THAT ROCK." Common Sense is alive when we "TAKE HEED FOR NO MAN KNOWETH WHAT HOUR THE BRIDEGROOM MAY RETURN, WATCH THERFORE AND KNOW THAT YOUR REDEMPTION DRAWETH NEIGH." Common Sense is alive WHEN THE BIBLE BECOMES YOUR ROAD MAP TO ETERNITY. dajcat

I see a lot about Catholicism and various comments relating to the Roman Catholic Church.
I respectfully suggest that many sins/sinful ideologies have manifested themselves over the centuries by most (if not all) Christian denominations. One of the most sinful manifestations in recent decades has been the tendency on the part of some to judge others and their beliefs without at the same time issuing forth a personal, hateful remark. yes, I have been guilty of that myself.
While the RCC is guilty of many things and may be in error on many others, it does have its virtues. The most obvious is the RCC's continuing support of the culture and right to life. To Catholics, I say let your church's positive points shine and don't become so defensive when responding to those who disagree with you.
To those responding to the more doctrinaire Catholics you know- either here on copper.net or elsewhere- remember that as with any radical element the chances of convincing your opposition that you may have something of note to offer them is minimal.

In his book "Explore the Bible" Dr. J. Sidloe Baxter wrote the following :"Our Lord's message was Himself. He did not come merely to preach a gospel, He was the Gospel. He did not come to merely give bread. He was the bread "IAM THE BREAD OF LIFE" .He did not come to shed light. He was that light. He said " I AM THE LIGHT". HE did not come to show us a door. He was that door. He said " IAM THE DOOR". He did not come merely to name a sheperd. He was that Sheperd. He said " IAM THE GOOD SHEPERD". He did not come to merely point the way. He was the Way. He said " IAM THE WAY., THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, NO MAN COMETH TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME. J. the following was sent to me by Henrietta bless her heart.
Louise Redden, a poorly dressed lady with a look of defeat on her face, walked into a grocery store. She approached the owner of the store in a most humble manner and asked if he would let her charge a few groceries. She softly explained that her husband was very ill and unable to work, they had seven children and they needed food. John Longhouse, the grocer, scoffed at her and requested that she leave his store at once. Visualizing the family needs, she said: 'Please, sir! I will bring you the money just as soon as I can.' John told her he could not give her credit, since she did not have a charge account at his store. Standing beside the counter was a customer who overheard the conversation between the two. The customer walked forward and told the grocer that he would stand good for whatever she needed for her family. The grocer said in a very reluctant voice, 'Do you have a grocery list?' Louise replied, 'Yes sir.' 'O.K' he said, 'put your grocery list on the scales and whatever your grocery list weighs, I will give you that amount in groceries.' Louise hesitated a moment with a bowed head, then she reached into her purse and took out a piece of paper and scribbled something on it. She then laid the piece of paper on the scale carefully with her head still bowed. The eyes of the grocer and the customer showed amazement when the scales went down and stayed down. The grocer, staring at the scales, turned slowly to the customer and said begrudgingly, 'I can't believe it.' The customer smiled and the grocer started putting the groceries on the other side of the scales. The scale did not balance so he continued to put more and more groceries on them until the scales would hold no more. The grocer stood there in utter disgust. Finally, he grabbed the piece of paper from the scales and looked at it with greater amazement. It was not a grocery list, it was a prayer, which said: 'Dear Lord, you know my needs and I am leaving this in your hands.' The grocer gave her the groceries that he had gathered and stood in stunned silence. Louise thanked him and left the store.. The other customer handed a fifty-dollar bill to the grocer and said; 'It was worth every penny of it. Only God Knows how much a prayer weighs..' THE POWER: When you receive this, say a prayer. That's all you have to do. Just stop right now, and say a prayer of thanks for your own good fortune. Then please send this to all your friends and relatives. I believe if you will send this testimony out with prayer in faith, you will receive what you need God to do in your and your families' life . So dear heart, trust God to heal the sick, provide food for the hungry, clothes and shelter for those that don't have as we do. Amen & Amen Don't break this, please! Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no $ cost but a lot of rewards. May you always walk with Angels God Bless! ++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++ +++++ I AM CLAIMING THIS FOR YOU Three things will happen to you this coming week: (1) You will find favor with someone you don't expect; (2) You will be too relevant to be ignored; (3) You will encounter God and you will never remain the same, Amen. My prayer for you today: The eyes beholding this message shall not behold evil, the hands that will send this message to others shall not labor in vain, the mouth saying Amen to this prayer shall laugh forever. Remain in God's love as you send this prayer to everybody on your list. Have a lovely journey of life! Trust in the Lord with all your heart and He will never fail you because He is Awesome! If you truly need a blessing, continue reading this email: Heavenly Father, most Gracious and Loving God, I pray to you that you abundantly bless my family and me. I know that you recognize, that a family is more than just a mother, father, sister, brother, husband and wife, but all who believe and trust in you. Father, I send up a prayer request for blessings for not only the person who sent this to me, but for me and all that I have forwarded this message on to. And that the power of joined prayer by those who believe and trust in you is more powerful than anything. I thank you in advance for your blessings. Father God, deliver the person reading this right now from debt and debt burdens. Release your Godly wisdom that I may be a good steward over all that You have given me Father, for I know how wonderful and mighty you are and how if we just obey you and walk in your word and have the faith of a mustard seed that you will pour out blessings. I thank you now Lord for the recent blessings I have received and for the blessings yet to come because I know you are not done with me yet. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen TAKE 60 SECONDS and send this on and within hours, you will have caused a multitude of people to pray to God for each other. Then sit back and watch the power of God work in your life for doing the thing that you know He loves. Remain Blessed!!! Peace and Blessings...

Here is a little funny story I read in Turning Point Devotional by Dr. David Jeremiah. The author thought it had a lot to do with procrastinating but I found it more about sticking to what you know you should do even when good meaning people try to turn you away from it.
A lad was seen moving corn cobs from his over turned wagon on a country road. Young lad you are working so hard why not rest a while and come home with me for a good meal. i will come back and help you afterwards I promise said the stranger. No I don't think I should do that said the lad my father wouldn't like that.Oh come on said the stranger he won't mind I promiseI will come and help you . Talking the lad into it they left for a good meal. Upon returning to the wagon the stranger said you see your father didn't mind did he? . By the way where is your father? With that the lad replied UNDER THE WAGON.. dajcat

Henrietta sent this to me. i thought it wouldbe good toshare it with the forum.
You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about. Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the home of her husband's employer. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house. The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. Her husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely. As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant one evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.. Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him.. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny. He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up? Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer.. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value. A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this? "Look at it," he said. "Read what it says." She read the words, " United States of America ." "No, not that. Read further." "One cent?" "No, keep reading." "In God we Trust?" "Yes!" "And?. . ." "And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin, I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him. Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray. I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!" When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh. "Yes, God, I get the message!" It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient.
Thought for the Day: If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it... If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring. He sends you a sunrise every morning. Face it, friend - He is crazy about you! Send this to every beautiful person you wish to bless. God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. Read this line very slowly and let it sink in.. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it. Pass this message to seven people except you and me. You will receive a miracle tomorrow (just do it)!

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING, BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP. I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS, I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP. THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED - THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE, BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT. TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION, THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION. SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR, AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE. GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES, PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES. I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND, 'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND. I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY, WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE. BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES.... HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE. MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP. MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP. MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS. MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE, MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL
