Although it sounds naughty, as it relates to networking promiscuous mode implies that a network card is able to recognize all network traffic with which it comes in contact. Generally you need a promiscuous mode card using a promiscuous mode driver to run any kind of network packet-filtering tool effectively. - "SgtDeath" wrote in messagenews:0mHnb.45144$hp5.31723@fed1read04... A processor instruction that can perform operations across multiple data instructions. So, instead of saying "Add A,B" several times to add two groups of numbers, you may say "Add Row A, Row B" or something to that effect. Instructions of this nature are often associated with 3D graphics and multimedia. - Lou wrote: If you like to bargain, or haggle with the price of an item - forget about Bestbuy. You need printed proof from a local competitor. In addition, they will not match wholesale club prices , (Sam's, Costco, BJ's).Most stores do not pricematch wholesale clubs. BB is not unusualin that regard. And if someone else has it cheaper, why not justbuy it there? Why bother complaining about BB refusing to sellit to you for that price? Bestbuy is the King of Rebates, but a problem with them honoring a refund taught me a lesson. They indicated that I sent the wrong UPC symbol for a MAG computer monitor. Well, I sent every freakin UPC off the box - so much for the $50.00 rebate.Have you spoken to the store manager? I believe that people havehad success with BB rebates by getting the manager involved. Listing partial model numbers makes it hard to comparison shop, for instance Mitsubishi's Wide screen RPTV. There are several model lines for the 55" Widescreen which all look the same. (2002 - 2003), WS-55311, WS-55411, and WS-55511. The WS-55411, and WS-55511 have more features. Bestbuy conveniently left off the last 3 digits on the store displays, and, in the advertisments. (WS-55). After much investigation, I found out that the Bestbuy advertised WS-55 is actually the WS-55311 (the low-end model). So, you have a computer, you know the model number isincomplete, go look on their website. And you say later on thatthey have their own model numbers. Maybe this is a private modelnumber that's equivalent to the 55311? This made it appear that Bestbuy had a better deal on this Widescreen TV, being that most of the competition was selling the better quality WS-55411 at a higher price. I am shopping around now for the best price on the JVC 27" flat screen TV, model number AV-27F704. This is sold by Sam's club (the best price of $298.00), Sears, PC Richard, and all over the internet. It is currently out of stock in all those stores. This model number is listed on JVC's web site. When I went to Bestbuy they had the exact tv with a different model number AV-27F734. This is not listed on JVC's web site. I called the JVC service dept, and the customer rep said that AV-27F734 is the same as the AV-27F704, except that the remote is slightly different, AND, it is exclusive to Bestbuy. Now, Bestbuy does not have to worry about price matching being that no one else sells that model number. (I asked the sales rep about this discrepency, and he said the model numbers had to be exact - he chuckled and hung up - honest!) I wonder how many other items are made with exclusive model numbers. This is not unusual, Crazy Eddie and The Wiz (I use those sinceyou are obviously in the New York area) used to do it all thetime. You're probably going to find that that low end 27" TVsdon't typically get sold for the standard price and do not go onsale; I bought a 27" Panasonic a few months ago and it was thesame price all over.Bill

This refers to the distance of 1.75" between screw holes in a rack used to hold server equipment. Most computer equipment racks are between 24 and 42 rack units in height. If you are shopping for rack equipment, keep in mind the height of the rack you have to work with and the "U" rating of the equipment. Heights of 1U indicate equipment that can fit into a 1.75" tall rack space, and 2U would indicate twice that at 3.5", - If you have "a quality and marketable work" why in the world would youenter a fee-charging contest for a (possible) $500 advance?Best,Jim

The smaller the better, as it relates to CRT monitors. The dot pitch is a measure of distance between phosphor dots of the same color on a CRT monitor. A high dot pitch generally produces a blurred and unclear picture. Smaller dot pitches produce a sharper, crisper image that stands up to close examination. There is contention on how the dot pitch should be measured: horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, resulting in - Sid Zafran wrote in messagenews:telecom22.700.9@telecom-digest.org: I have been disputing the USF recovery fee on my invoices from Earthlink DSL. After having discussed and written to Earthlink about this matter, the following summary facts apply to my billing: Earthlink is billing me on behalf of SBC who provides my local telephone service; I am already paying SBC a USF recovery fee for the low frequency telephone signal on my local line; Earthlink is collecting a USF recovery fee surcharge for the high frequency DSL signal on my local line; All of SBC's customers using Earthlink DSL services in Los Angeles County, California, are being billed $0.66 monthly for USF recovery. I was informed verbally by SBC that no additional taxes would appear on my telephone bill if I used their DSL services. My billing would stay the same regarding taxes and surcharges. I am presently paying SBC a monthly USF recovery fee of $0.45. I believe that that SBC is shifting more than an equitable share of their USF recovery fee to Earthlink customers such as myself. This may be a violation of FCC requirements. It also gives SBC an unfair competitive advantage in providing DSL services.
