A processor that can run a 64-bit OS. The DEC Alpha is 64-bit, and so are Intel's Itanium and AMD's Opteron and Athlon 64 processors. The 386, 486, and Pentium and Pentium II/III/4 are all 32-bit processors, even though the Pentium and newer chips have 64-bit memory buses. - Thanks for the reply; there is a long thread on this under this with aslightly different heading"US Robotics USB Faxmodem connects at different speeds from differentcomputers"where you will see that there are a number of log files etc.No real solution found - the init strings are the same as are the inffiles.JohnOn Sun, 16 May 2004 18:16:58 GMT, "Tom Schmidt" wrote:"John" wrote in messagenews:8c4d905otef5kumviohkdrgpekjpbtkfbf@4ax.com... The question isn't as daft as it looks: 2 computers in the same room, same modem, same line, same drivers, same com port settings, same standard initizialization (as far as I can tell), same ISP and one routinely connects at 49Kbps and the other at 33. This happens identically with 3 different ISPs so its down to something in the computer, from the USB socket inwards. The 33Kbps has two different sets of onboard USB sockets and one external powered hub (Belkin) and changing the socket makes no difference so presumably its not that. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can look for the reason, or how I might fix this? Modem is a US Robotics USB 56K V92 external Faxmodem. Both computers on Win XP Service Pack 1. I have log files if anyone is interested enough to want to see them but as far as I can tell the only difference is the returned connection speed. Thanx JohnThe fact that you can connect at 49 kbps indicates a pretty good line.33.6kbps is the maximum speed for V.34, this is the fallback condition ifthe modem cannot connect in V.90/92 mode. When you say you use the same modem are you moving a single modem betweenthe machines, or do both machines have the same modem? My guess it eitherthe modem has a problem with the V.90/92 implementation or for some reasonit is being inited to disable V.90/92.If you have two modems I'd swap them and see what happens. If not doublecheck the init strings./Tom***IMPORTANT***Please do not reply to effluent@blueyonder.co.ukThis is an antispam address. Please replace effluent with archway.

The most common form of advertising found on the Web. The traditional size of a banner ad is 468 by 60 pixels, but there are many other sizes in general use. Banner ads are typically animated GIF graphics or Flash animations that are simply clicked on to go to the website of the advertiser, but can also contain rich media that allows for some degree of interaction with the ad besides a simple click. - On Sat, 27 Sep 2003 03:52:34 +0000, Steve M (remove wax for reply) wrote: And what are you going to tell the phone company? They can't fake ANI and noexchange will fail to record it as it's needed for billing purposes.(*) Automatic Number Identication.Hopefully the TCPA (47 USC 227) will be extended to make faking of CIDdata an $11k/instance offence, if it hasn't been made so already by theFCC in other statutes or legislation.--There are 2 sorts of email opt-in lists:1: Those which can demonstrate the provenance of every subscription request.2: Fraud

The DVD-RAM standard uses media that can be written and read multiple times, like RAM chips. The first DVD-RAM media held 2.6 GB worth of data per side, and had to be manually flipped over to access the other side. Updates to the standard allowed full 4.7 GB DVD capacity. DVD-RAM drives can read standard DVD disks, but need a special caddy to hold the disks. DVD-RAM media is shaped like the caddy and cannot be inserted i - In ba.internet bearclaw@cruller.invalid wrote:: In article <4f153f94.0306300918.5c19535e@posting.google.com>,: scharf@hotmail.com (Steven Scharf) wrote:: > The big advantage of Sonic.net is that you get 4 static IP: > addresses included in the price.: Is this mostly an advantage if you're running a VPN?
