ISP Information:
A very common form of file transmission, which can be used across dialup and telnet connections. It can be used in batch modes (for multiple files), and it is faster than the older xmodem and ymodem. In some implementations, it can resume a transfer after a connection has been broken and re-established. ISP Glossary:
zmodem - "Adams-Blake Co." wrote inmessage news:bgciul$qr2$1@slb9.atl.mindspring.net... Been a long time since I've posted here... but I lurk. Thanks Hooda!!! This is a small thing, but I'm curious. The past week or so when dialed into Mindspring it takes about 15 secondsto check the mail (when there is no mail.... longer if there is some). Normally, you click "get mail" (using Kmail on Mandrake Linux 8.2) and the modem lights go on and stay on. But now they go on, go off, go on, go off, then go on and stay on and connect. It's like the first attempt at DNS resolution does not work andso it tries again and again. Is this a Mindspring issue or does Kmail save some DNS setting somewhereand maybe the first entry is wrong? OR, could Mindspring's DNS server be on the fritz? OR could it be a problem at my ISP who has the POP for our domain. (alentus.com.... who claims it's not their problem.) I don't have a latency when getting mail at another of my domains hostedby Pair Networks. Anyone have any ideas? I figure if you guys don't know, ain't no one who knows!!When you have no problems getting mail at another domain, do you meanredialing into another phone number? Or do you mean accessing email fromanother domain when dialed into the same ISP number? If the former (or the latter), the problem is not likely to be your modem oryour line. If the former, the problem could be at that POP # (a line, modem,or router problem) or with Mindspring's email servers. If the latter, theproblem could be at the POP you dial into (trouble maintaining a route toMindspring) or at Mindspring. But it doesn't sound like a problem at your end.--Hooda Gest"The only thing I do immediately is procrastinate."
