This was first introduced in Microsoft's Windows NT, and then to consumers with Windows 95, as a centralized repository for all the miscellaneous settings that were stored in .ini files in Windows 3.x. Now, all current versions of Windows contain a Registry. Managing the Registry is better than managing a group of .ini files, but still has many problems. ISP Glossary:
