I'm not sure offhand how to do this in XP; you might try the Win2k method: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;;234014Yes, thank you, that's it, it also works in WinXP Pro. (I also didn'tfind any other way of switching PPP logging on in XP Pro.)Comparing the log of a working session with that of the non-workingconnection, I saw that in the unsuccessful connection the PC retriessending the initial package many times but does not receive any reply. What astonishes me is that in the working session the reply packagesarrive within one or two seconds, while in the unsuccessful there isalways a "received timeout" after less than one second.I cannot believe that something which normally needs one to two secondsshould timeout in less than one.I again had a look into the modem logs. Each of the unsuccessfulconnections show "v90" and "41333". I cannot believe that eachconnection has the very same line quality. This is contrary to the usualexperience with the successful connections.I suspect that there is something wrong with the modem speed negotiationalthough there is no error indicated. I will have to investigate that indetail, but at that point last night it was time to get some sleep. Thanks for your suggestion,--email me: change "nospam" to "w.hennings"Dipl.-Ing.(=M.Sc.Eng.)
