Network File System - I worked for Pizza Hut a couple of years when I was in high school, somethinglike '75-'77.We arrived about 8:30 am and made all of the dough from scratch.....flour,salt,oil in a huge mixer then left it to rise. There were only 2 kinds of crust:Thin-N-Crispy and Thick-N-Chewy...now called "Hand Tossed." (Yeah, hand tossedmy ass!) Each crust had it`s own sauce too! Both totally different in taste andmade by combining particular packets of spices with cans of tomato sauce andpaste. We also made two kinds of pasta, Spaghetti and some kind of wheeled pastacalled something like Cavitini. It too had it`s own sauce. All of the onions and green peppers were cut fresh every day as were the veggiesfor the salad bar. The other veggies...olives, mushrooms etc. were canned, ofcourse.Everything was cooked in two tier confection ovens that eventually left one armtotally hairless and marred by hideous burns and scars you thought would neverheal. The top of the oven contained various pizza mistakes.....wrong toppings, over cooking etc....a complete smorgasbord for our enjoyment. All of the meats were so flavorful. The pepperoni. Italian sausage, beef andpork toppings were absolutely wonderful and no matter what combination youchose, you got one hell of a tasty pizza. You literally savored every bite. Now it`s crap. The dough is frozen, the veggies pre-packaged and the whole thingis marketed like cheap carnival food with shitty cheese stuffed crust, P' Zonesand the like. All they need to do now is figure out how to serve it on a stick.Anyway, Pizza Hut is still better than anything else on the market, but that`snot saying much. The damn thing is just too expensive which sucks all of thevalue right out leaving little to no enjoyment of it. If you get it at therestaurant it`s not so bad, but delivery just dulls the flavor....I don`t carehow hot it is when you get it. It`s never as good as eating in and getting itright out of the oven.It takes about 12-15 minuets to properly cook a pizza and 30-45 minuets to getit to your door. Well, you do the math.Anymore, I make a better pizza throwing pepperoni and Ragu on a tortilla withsome cheap Kraft pizza cheese and tossing it in a toaster oven. But, of course, this will never be as much fun as it was in 1976 after closingand alone with some sweet young waitress in a dark booth as Bob Seger crooned"Night Moves" from the juke box.G.....waking to the sound of thunder! ;-)
