Beloware the changes i've made to try and fix this problem.Strange... I don't recall many such articles. Actually, I don'trecall any.Added this line to /etc/ppp/options: mtu 552 mru 552Ran - setserial /dev/modem spd_vhi#setserial -a /dev/modem/dev/modem, Line 2, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03e8, IRQ: 3 Baud_base: 115200, close_delay: 50, divisor: 0 closing_wait: 3000 Flags: spd_normal skip_test#setserial /dev/modem/dev/modem, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03e8, IRQ: 3, Flags: spd_vhiBut no go. I've tried two modems.. .a USR 56K USR Megahertz PCMCIAmodem (XJ5560) and a USR External serial 56K modem (USR5686D). Thebest it connects at is 26400 with either modem... and I know it's notthe phone line because under Windows I connect at 48K and up onaverage.Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...Hi Alex.None of the above affects the connect speed as such. You've setit to work at 115200 kbps to the serial port, which has noeffect on the link speed (other than if you set it lower, thelink won't connect at a rate faster than the port). The 26.4 kbps sounds like one particular type of line problem, except that you say that with Windows you do get v.90connections. (Good thing you mentioned that, or I'd be off on awild tangent!)Assuming that the same modems plugged into the *same* telephoneline are getting verified v.90 connection rates, the difference*has* to be in the init string you are configuring the modemswith.I'm adding comp.dcom.modems to the newsgroup list. Someonethere will no doubt be familiar with those particular modems, and will be able to describe exactly what the init string shouldlook like.--Floyd L.
