A set of operations that allow scanners to have a standard interface to software. This allows the use of your favorite graphics package with your favorite scanner without worrying if one will support the other. As long as both are TWAIN-complaint they will work together. Butunless you dial a 1 1st a long distance call will not go through. BUT wealso have Extended Area Service. If you have it then calls to localbedroom communities are free. If you don't have it it's 5 cents aminute. So checking with the phone company is the better thing to dowhen dialing a number for an ISP.
