ISP Information:

This Microsoft Windows operating system added many UI enhancements and clutter that actually made it less stable and more hated than Windows 95 and 98. No improvements to the core were made for stability or to enhance the combination 16- and 32-bit mess under the hood. This was Microsoft's last version of Windows containing pieces of 16-bit DOS guts, and good riddance.

I ordered a Gateway desktop over the phone on Tues.Dec.16. Their website was GUARANTEEING delivery for Christmas. The salesman told me that it would take 2 days to put it together - Wed and Thurs - and it would be shipped out on Friday via UPS 2-day shipping and would arrive on Mon. the 22nd. He was very firm about the shipping/arrival dates. When the computer didn't arrive on Monday, I called and informed him that it had not arrived and asked why not. He checked and said "It's been shipped and it will probably be there tomorrow (Tues.)." I shrieked "PROBABLY????????" He said "I mean, I'm 99.99 percent sure it will be there tomorrow." Tues. came and no computer. I called and requested to speak with the manager. He checked my order and told me it was in the shipping dep't ready to be picked up and he had told them to change the shipping to "overnight" and assured me that I would have it on Wed. in time for Christmas. On Wed.the 24th, no computer. I called the sales manager back and he's no longer taking calls. His voice mail directed me to "customer service". I got a very nice lady who checked my account and said "I'm sorry to tell you that your computer is waiting for parts that are backordered and due to arrive on Dec. 27. It IS, however, designated for free overnight shipping and you should receive it on Jan. 2nd. " I sent an email to their online site voicing my complaints about the lies I was told. If the salesman had told me on Dec. 16th that all the parts were not there and they could not promise delivery by Christmas, I could have made other arrangements. Even on Monday, I could have still shopped locally for a computer. On Dec. 24th, I no longer had that option. The answer was a big long explanation about how their system works and what might have happened to delay my computer - basically excuses and rationalizations about the "disinformation" I'd been given by the sales department. Beware of Gateway's lying sales reps. kathy Life is cruel - how important is it ? Getting born is important - dieing is important - getting married is important for some, at least for a week or two. But how important is this week of waiting - especially when you apparently already have a machine that works ? I agree, if it were for me. It was my daughter's Christmas gift for her fiance. She had some smaller gifts for him, but was very disappointed not to have the computer for him for Christmas.. Kathy Oh - I bet your daughter was really disappointed - how about her fiance ? - did he understand ? Sometimes I think we make too big a deal over the "gift thing". I give my grown children checks around Thanksgiving so they can buy whatever they want. I give away most of the gifts I get because they are things I don't want or don't have room for. I gave my wife all her gifts in the weeks before Christmas. On Thanksgiving and Christmas Days I go to the local churches and deliver free meals to the needy. I think the Orthodox celebrate Christmas in early January - ask her to temporarily convert to them. BTW - if he didn't understand, she should dump him.Yes - he understood. He was so happy to be getting it at all. And you're right- we get way too focused on the gifts. On the other hand, these companies getway too focused on sales to the point of lying to customers in order not to losethe sale.Kathy
