Apparently the woman who I spoke with alsodropped the ball. 8-( So I called the PO again yesterday (wisely, Isaved the super-secret unlisted number) and spoke to a differentwoman. She was very polite, seemed sympathetic, and offered to have asupervisor call me. So far, no supervisor has called.I asked my neighbor to leave a note for the carrier. I only wish I'dknown to do that in the first place. :(I returned home last night to find no mail in my mailbox. Looks likethe note to the carrier finally did the trick. Of course, the promisedcallback from the delivery supervisor never occurred. Later thisafternoon I'll go stand in line at the post office to pick up whatevermail they held for me.All in all, this has been an eye-opening experience. But wait - there's more! This afternoon I went to the PO to pick up my held mail. After takinga number and waiting 25 minutes, I took my turn and explained to thenice young lady behind the counter that I was there to pick up mail onvacation hold. Another employee two windows down overheard me andpipes up "he needs to go over there," pointing to the special windowwhere people can buy stamps and get their postage meters set."But there's a long line there," the lady who was helping meprotested."Doesn't matter - he HAS to," replied the other woman. Now, both of these ladies knew I had just been waiting patiently inline for the last 25 minutes. This obviously did not matter to thewoman two windows down. Fortunately, the lady who was waiting on mestill cared about good customer service, ignored the other woman's"advice," and went and retrieved my mail. I thanked her verypleasantly and left.BTW, while I was waiting for my mail, I looked around the area. I sawno signs telling me that if I want to retrieve mail that's on vacationhold I need to bypass the normal line and wait at the special window. The woman manning the window (which was closed when I first arrived,BTW) did not call out "anyone here for vacation held mail, I can helpyou over here!" And in the past when I have retrieved vacation-heldmail, both at this post office as well as others, I took a number andstood in line just like I did today; nobody else has *ever* complainedbefore, nor did anyone say "next time, sir, you really should wait inline at that window over there."Anyone want to take a stab at explaining what I did wrong, and whythis woman believed I deserved to stand in a second line after alreadyhaving waited 25 minutes in the first one?--Friends don't let friends shop at Best Buy.
