ISP Information:
A protocol used to manage network devices, usually hubs and routers. It operates over UDP, which is part of TCP/IP. Devices that support SNMP send messages to a management console. The management console then stores these messages in the MIB (Management Information Base). SNMP is often used to get traffic reports on hubs and check network utilization on various devices. A several days ago, another tech was dispatched (I'm told), but I was not home. And all I can do is wait for it to get damp again, because that is when the problems arise. Any other time they will not find the problem. (Not they they've found it the last several time anyway). Perhaps the problem is located at the point where the cable enters the building. Darren Harris Staten Island, New York.I just wanted to say that it happened again. This time I was called by Verizon because the issue was unresolved. Anappointment was made for Wednesday the 19th, and I went out of my wayto be home and stay off the line in case they called. The tech guy never showed. Though I'm sure that if I call again to askwhat happened, I will be told that he was here and checked the linesoutside again, so I didn't bother.Exactly a week later on the day before Thanksgiving my phone startedexhibiting extreme static noise, and then eventually went deadcompletely. I was told the next day that a line was damaged, and thatservice to my neighborhood could be down until Sunday.Well service was restored early(Friday night), and for some reason Ihave had the line noise problem since. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.Darren HarrisStaten Island, New York.[TELECOM Digest Editor's Note: I started to editorially correct thefinal 'have' to 'have not had the noise' in the final paragraphabove then decided against it, not knowing for sure what Darren meantto say. Which was it, Darren? Is the problem apparently gone now? PAT]
