I ordered a Gateway desktop over the phone on Tues.Dec.16. Their website was GUARANTEEING delivery for Christmas. The salesman told me that it would take 2 days to put it together - Wed and Thurs - and it would be shipped out on Friday via UPS 2-day shipping and wouldarrive on Mon. the 22nd. He was very firm about the shipping/arrival dates. When the computer didn't arrive on Monday, I called and informed him that it had not arrived and asked why not. He checked and said "It's been shipped and it will probably be there tomorrow (Tues.)." I shrieked "PROBABLY????????" He said "I mean, I'm 99.99 percent sureit will be there tomorrow." Tues. came and no computer. I called and requested to speak with the manager. He checked my order and told meit was in the shipping dep't ready to be picked up and he had told themto change the shipping to "overnight" and assured me that I would haveit on Wed. in time for Christmas. On Wed.the 24th, no computer. I called the sales manager back and he's no longer taking calls. His voicemail directed me to "customer service". I got a very nice lady who checked my account and said "I'm sorry to tell you that your computer iswaiting for parts that are backordered and due to arrive on Dec. 27. It IS, however, designated for free overnight shipping and you should receive it on Jan. 2nd. " I sent an email to their online site voicing my complaints about the lies I was told. If the salesman had told me on Dec. 16th that all the parts were not there and they could not promise delivery by Christmas, I could have made other arrangements. Even on Monday, I could have still shopped locally for a computer. On Dec. 24th, I no longer had that option. The answer was a big long explanation about how their system works and what might have happened to delay my computer - basically excuses and rationalizations about the "disinformation" I'd been given by the sales department. Beware of Gateway's lying sales reps. kathy Life is cruel - how important is it ? Getting born is important -dieing is important - getting married is important for some, at least for a weekor two. But how important is this week of waiting - especially when you apparently already have a machine that works ? I agree, if it were for me. It was my daughter's Christmas gift for her fiance. She had some smaller gifts for him, but was very disappointed notto have the computer for him for Christmas.. KathyOh - I bet your daughter was really disappointed - how about her fiance ? -did he understand ?Sometimes I think we make too big a deal over the "gift thing". I give mygrown children checks around Thanksgiving so they can buy whatever theywant. I give away most of the gifts I get because they are things I don'twant or don't have room for. I gave my wife all her gifts in the weeksbefore Christmas. On Thanksgiving and Christmas Days I go to the localchurches and deliver free meals to the needy. I think the Orthodoxcelebrate Christmas in early January - ask her to temporarily convert tothem.BTW - if he didn't understand, she should dump him.
