Multiple memory caches, most often L1 and L2 cache, that are treated as a single unit in that they don't ever hold the same information. In non-unified caching, both L1 and L2 could potentially hold parts of the same data. ISP Glossary:

"Michael Hallgren" wrote in message news:bgg91c$em$1@news-reader5.wanadoo.fr... Hello, I am having, what appears to me, a strange problem. I am setting up out of band access to a set of routers in few European countries. In LondonI have an older USR 56K V90 Faxmodem, that I use sucessfully. However, Ijust bought a set of more recent USR 56K V92 Faxmodems (5630B), which won't work in spite of configured with the very same string. Define "won't work"... that's a bit vague. My excuses, yes a bit vague. Incoming? Outgoing? What happens when attempting to connect? I am dialing the modem, and expect it to give a login promt on the connected cisco router: My PC ------ modem ------ Router-console-port When attempting with the USR5630B modems I connect (my terminal program reports successful connection), but I get no prompt (a blank window). The older modem (also of 5630 type), works just fine. If incoming and won't auto-answer, check dip switch 5. No dip switches on these modems (old or new). Not important since it is auto-answering.OK. Yes, S register setting. Here's what you might check... Compare the port speed in the ati5 for both modems. Note that is ati5, not ati4. When a USR modem is configured and written to, it retains the port speedat which it was written. When the modem is power cycled or reset with an ATZ, it will fall back to that saved port speed. If that port speed is not the same as the system's current port speed then you will not see anyresponse.OK. Thanks. Reasonable. I'll check, feedback to group. Many thanks,mh -- Hooda Gest "In a New York minute, everything can change..."
