ISP Information:
A command that displays PING results for each router encountered between a source and a destination TCP/IP address. Traceroute is useful for getting some information along the entire path between two TCP/IP addresses. Firewalls or other security measures that block PING traffic also block traceroutes. The command itself is typed "tracert" on the command line of most operating systems. ISP Glossary:
Tracert - OK, I know that this may very well seem a dumb question, but why isthe NANP numbering system different to other phone systems throughoutthe world? The vast majority of countries in the world have area codes beginningwith '0', whereas in NANP countries the area code commences with '1',and then numbers on the same area code, or even numbers inneighbouring codes (i.e. 919, 252 and 304), aren't always regarded aslocal, as they are here in the UK. For example, my local calling areanot only covers my own exchange (01685) but also all numbers on theneighbouring exchanges of 01443, 01639, 01874 and 01495.Also, how are calls charged between countries within NANP -- thatis, is a call from Canada or the US to Bermuda or Barbados regarded asinternational, even though they're technically (I think!) on the samephone system?TIA!Rob
