A new standard of displaying and broadcasting television signals that uses at least twice the scan lines of normal television and a 16x9 aspect ratio, as opposed to the old 4x3 aspect ration of a standard TV set. Japan first used an analog form of HDTV. The United States began with a digital form of HDTV, or DTV.
