DirectX - I have a very vivid memory of my childhood in the 1950s in Berwyn, IL,(312-GUnderson-4), a nearby suburb of Chicago.I had two sets of aunts and uncles who lived on the west side ofChicago in the Lawndale neighborhood. Both of them had telephonesWITHOUT dials (312-LAwndale-1 & 312-CRawford-7). When you picked themup, the Operator answered "Number please."Even more amazing (and I may be wrong here, but the memory is prettyclear) is that I recall WE (in Berwyn) could dial THEM (in Chicago)direct, but they needed the operator to get ALL of their calls.Maybe you or some other readers have memory of when the LAwndaleexchange converted to dial.
