Hello---I'm trying to connect to my (IE6 OE) newsgroup server via my ISP (which is Ev1.net), but I get the following error: "An unknown response was received in response to a request for information from the news server "news.ev1.net', & then under "details" I get this: "502 no permission for...(my I.P. address here)...."& then in parentheses it says"blocked by realm Cowtown". WTF is "realm Cowtown"??? I've called my ISP & my Dell software support, & they have no idea what "realm Cowtown" is, but Dell did say that after I update my a/v & spyware databases on my pc & run those, & check in registry for "Cowtown", & last resort, to run System Restore to when this didn't happen (yesterday), I could ask my ISP to assign me a new ISP addy. Any info on "Cowtown", anyone? Thanx a bunch! drop me a line at NOSPAM_rastapasta @ ev1.net_NOSPAM (If you're wondering, I'm using Google Groups to send this) To be 100% honest I have a dell and it kind of sounds like the support does not know what there doing. More then likley it wasn't a virus or adware. Maybe it was a temporary problems. It could of been spyware that would block certain sites but I am very doubtfull it was a virus, worm, trojan, spyware or any of the other usual stuff. I think your problem was just a temporary one. But I can not say for sure because you did not provide enough details. Also, the Blocked by part could mean several things. It could mean realm cowtown is a moderator (or whatever you call them on usenet) of the group and banned your ip for w/e reason. (I am new to usenet and not for sure if they can do that, I know there are moderatred newsservers out there) or it could mean a variety of things.Yeah, I was thinking Dell probably should've known more than they did, butoh well. I paid $300 or 400 for a 3 year software warranty. You'd think Ishould get my $ out of it. MY ISP didn't know either, but then again, I gota teenage bimbo girl, prolly with braces still on her teeth & zits, thatdidn't know what it was either. All I know is I downloaded the new spywaredefinitions for Adware, like I do at least every other day, ran it, & itfound a reg. entry that I've never seen before. I prolly should've writtenit down to google it. I just deleted it, rebooted, tunrned sys. restore off, defragged, rebooted, sys. restore back on, connected to the web, & was ableto finally connect to my OE's ng's. Yeah, I was thinking maybe some assholemoderator/hacker/whatever that didn't like my posts. Fuck em.
