Is there a v.90 modem out there that is particularly great for noisy lines? If they don't get above 26.4k because of line conditions, there's not much point in a V.90 modem. Find out if the problem is actually the line and not something sharing the line with the modem. It's also possible that the modem they have is not properly set up or is just a poor piece of equipment.I've been configuring modems since the 80's, so hopefully I didn't goofsomething up. This is also the 2nd modem in the house to show theseresults, but there was one before those two that reached into the 40's(kbaud).I've wondered about the other things on the line as well. There are 3phones on that line, with at least two of them being major P.O.S's. Is thatreally an issue? I'll go look at it asap.If they are on the hook, only the bells could possibly be an issue. But I don't know if they could be or not.Just because a lot of people get bad connections, one cannot say forsure it is the wiring. What about the other people on your block? Donone of them get 50,666 or even 52,000? Or at least higher than youdo?I never got higher than 33,333, until something went wrong with allthe phones. I disconnected everything and still couldn't get rid ofthe humming, louder than the dialtone, if there even was a dialtone, for the one phone I left, whichever jack it was plugged into.So I ran a wire out the window, to the junction box, the interfacethey call it, disconnected the house from the phone line and connectedonly the wire which now went to my computer and phone, and the phonein the bedroom. I got 49,000, and when that modem got fried, I evengot higher speeds with my old 33K than I had with the 56K when it wasconnected through the house wiring. After months, I tried the house wiring again, and it was ok. I forgetdetails of the story but this happened again and the second time thehouse wiring was ok and I continued to get high speeds with the housewiring. There is something wrong inside my house.Personally, I think that behind the wall plate for the wall phone inthe kitchen, it uses the "fork connectors" where you just push thewire between into the slit between the metal pieces, and I think thatconnection is bad. Next time my connect speed drops, I'm going tosolder everthing and use that connector only for that jack, which onlyhas a phone.Try running a wire straight to the interface connector just outsideyour house. If you don't have one, they may be ready to install onefor free.ThanksMeirmanIf emailing, please let me know whetheror not you are posting the same letter.Change domain to erols.com, if necessary.
