Then they say something like $29.95 a day. At that point you don't get the particulars of the ripoff hidden charges out in the open because who the fuck is going to sit on the phone and go down the list of fine print fees and charges with you?The person at the rental agency. They are there to rent you and othersa truck. It's good business practice to answer the potential renter'squestions. Then you make arrangements to get your friends and whoever to help you move. Then you walk in to pick up the truck and of course you have plenty of time to sit there and read the contract when there are 6 people standing behind you in line because U-Haul is too cheap to have more than 2 people at the counters to wait on people (they are ALWAYS understaffed.)As I mentioned before, you can set to the side and read the contract. This allows you to know what's expected/required while permitting others torent the trucks they want. They are free to set aside and read thecontracts as well. They know full well that this is the mode of operation of their customers about 85% of the time. When you line everything up to move a week or 2 ahead of time, you don't give it another thought until you walk up to the grimey U-Haul counter with your buddies. At which point, IF you decided they were going to rip you off, what then? Who's got time to line up another truck rental???Whereas you knew about the requirements ahead of time, I would say youhad ample time. Doing things like charging .80 cents a mile, charging $20. as aThe $20.00 is an incentive to bring it back fully fueled. If you don'twant to bring it back fueled, as is your privilege, they will do the job foryou, at the afore mentioned price. penalty for not refueling, charging some ridiculous amount per gallon to refuel, asking WHAT TIME you need the truck until?!?!? (it used to be a DAY, as in a 24 hour period), are all things that don't make forThis is probably so that they can better plan for future rentals. healthy customer relationships with a company such as U-Haul. AND, if you happen to not return the truck until 11pm or later and it takes diesel, you are generally FUCKED, because unless you are going to near a truck stop, you are not finding diesel in too many places at 11pm or later. Then find a truck stop. I only rent trucks from U-Haul because they are the cheapest rentals available, but alas they are not in the end. They only pretend to be. As such, I recommend using a reputable truck rental company like Ryder who also happen to have equipment that doesn't have broken doors, dirt covered seats, and broken gates.I've never seen a U-Haul as you've described. This does beg the question; Why would you accept a truck in such acondition? I would go back inside and ask for a truck that has beenmaintained properly.Kent--Nie'se schlect sim'wa
