I live virtually at the end of the line for the exchange I am on and I've never been able to connect above 28.8k getting that much took about 5 calls into the repair center with tho final solution being the tech switched termination points for my line at the trunking station untill I could get a good connect rate. Except during periods of heavy rain when connect rates would fall as low as 21.6 for short periods this has kept me going for the past 4 years. Just over the past month I'm developing a what sounds like a 60 cycle hum in th background, this can be heard on my home phone as well as the phone on the other end. I've had the repairmen out there twice and both times they have said there is nothing wrong. Iplugged my phone into the jack at the junction box on the outside wall of the house and the hum is still there. When it's bad this hum is loud enough to make the dailtone sound like a two tone signal. I put in another call but this time it is scheduled for when I will be home. What I need is some suggestions that I can give the telco guy for things to check. In my area we have had a pretty heavy purge of the old union guys and a bunch of younger not so well trained one have filled the gaps. I need help!!! I'm connecting at 14.4 & 16.8 now.......
