The problem seems to have resolved itself now that she has moved her PC to the next room and is using a different phone socket...... Open, clean, and re-terminate the phone jack where she had problems. That is the most likely cause of the problems she was having. That, or the phone cable used is flakey or was wrapped around a power cable. Thanks, I might have a look inside the jack next time I'm there. That's the explanation that I gave her, but she kept insisting that itwasthe same phone line. It took some time to get through to her that itwas the line INSIDE her room that was the problem. It's not important now because she won't be moving her PC back. She moved it because she was redecorating (not because of the phoneline),and its new location is permanent.
