binary files - I understand your frustration with this issue. Technically speaking youswitchedthe remaining line from a family plan to an individual plan which is a newplanas you noted in your message. This also hurts the other way. If you have an individual line, add a familymember, both contract dates get extended. The primary line is not partof a family plan, and both it and 2nd line get extended. This particular practice, while common, is not explained in the contractand I don't think it's obvious. One of the things I do to combat thisis I've taken to *always* asking "will this change effect any contractlength?" while I do it. At least then I know what I'm getting into. The final tidbit is that after you have left a carrier, and been billed theETF (early termination fee), you have no leverage with them whatsoever. Theyassume you'renot coming back. I've had similar issues with AT&T in the past, and afterI left, contesting the ETF was completely useless. On the other hand, if they believe they can save an account, you mightget them to do something nice for you, but that doesn't include waiving theETF.Sorry to hear about your experience. It's one of those frustrating thingsabout cellular. All I can say is that I doubt this problem is unique toVerizon. Seems to be an industry-wide practice-- just not a good one.-Dan--Eugene, Oregon -- Pacific Northwesthttp://cell.uoregon.edu
