The newer firmware version is causingproblems so I wanted to reflash the modem back to the originalfirmware version. I couldn't locate any earlier firmware versions onthe USRobotics web site. I sent four e-mails to their tech supportwithout a single reply. I finally contacted a tech support managerover the phone. I was informed that you can't flash the modem with anolder version of the firmware. You can only flash the modem with anewer firmware version. I was also informed that this is why theydon't have the older firmware versions.I have a hard time believing this and was wondering if anyone canconfirm that you cannot flash this modem with an older version of thefirmware than what is currently installed on the modem. Also ifthere's an alternate location that has older firmware versions forthis modem. What problems does the new firmware cause for you?The 5686D (which IIRC was originally sold as a V.90 modem, the 005686-03)seems to use the same firmware, and the version posted on the support pagefor that model (v5.4.44) looks like the original V.92 upgrade code.It wouldn't get you back to 5.4.30, though, but might fix your problems.[It's curious that USR has backed off from their policy to only supportfirmware updates via the control center software; I'm surprised to seestandalone flashers available from them again]Thanks for the tip. I just assumed USRobotics had updated thefirmware version link for both the 5686E and 5686D. I downloaded theolder firmware version from the link for 5686D and flashed it to mymodem. No problems and it now runs fantastic!HAL9000What problems did the new firmware cause for you?
