Lightweight Directory Access Protocol - meirman wrote: I have a good friend with a business. His business doesn't use the internet much and he uses a dial-up connection when he does. Does he need a firewall? Yesterday, I hear one of the two guys who do his computer work saying that he has no firewall. The reason he doesn't need one, he says, is that he uses dial-up. He has about 5 computers on a local hardwired network. A mixture of win98 and winXP. Only one connects directly to the internet, with a modem, and I don't know if that uses 98 or XP. Even if it is XP that connects to the computer, I think I remember hearing that the XP built-in firewall is far from adequate, and Zone Alarm for example would be much better. He has a friend and, when needed, a relation who do his computer work for him. Both are guys who iiuc have full time jobs doing this stuff, so I figure they know more than I do. But who knows? What should he do? Thanks. Meirman If emailing, please let me know whether or not you are posting the same letter. Change domain to erols.com, if necessary.Firewall _is_ a good idea for dial-ups.Suggestion: If he gets a software F/W, the first thing he shoulddo is to disarm its popup alerts.J--Replies to: Njk04s_130_p(at)Ojuno(dot)Tcom
