ZAK - Further to the discussion on why so many coin phones were assignedNXX-8/9XXX.For companies/corporations that used a PBX or CCSA they invariablyused 9 to access an "outside line". In many cases, an entire NXXwould be assigned to the company. Some used 8 for access to theirprivate network. Sometimes they would use 99 for outside, and 98 forprivate network access. In either case, since 9XXX could never beused as part of the company's internal dial plan, the telco used thesenumber blocks for pay phones. Otherwise, they might not have beenassigned at all.Regards,Charles G. GraySenior Lecturer, TelecommunicationsOklahoma State University - Tulsa(918)594-8433
