ISP Information:
A form of SDRAM memory made by Enhanced Memory Systems. It is designed to operate comfortably at speeds of up to 150MHz or higher at CAS 2 latency levels. It was mainly used by overclockers and was a niche product.

And even the carriers using a particular technology may have customized software in their phones (e.g., Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, but use different methods of updating and storing their preferred-carrier roaming list; carriers may also have different software for special features, such as photo/ringtone/game download).In fact, you can get "unlocked" phones. In the US they are MUCH moreexpensive (generally $400-$450 or so for a bare-bones model that isabout $150 when bought with an annual service contract), and youusually have to get them from the manufacturer. There are also sitesthat will tell you how to "unlock" the phone so you can use it on theother network. However, if you want a refurbished older phone, you canoften get it unlocked from a third party supplier.My experience with unlocked phones is with GSM. The largest GSMcarrier in the US is T-Mobile, but Cingular and AT&T also have GSMnetworks and there are some local GSM carriers. You can get a GSMphone from any of them, but then you can't use it on any of theothers, or on any of the GSM networks in hundreds of foreigncountries, except in "roaming mode" (assuming you have tri-band phonethat is useable on the different frequency bands used abroad). Ineeded a phone for use in the US and abroad, and after some searchfound that I could buy such a phone abroad, where nearly all phonesare sold "unlocked" or I could buy an unlocked phone in the US, onEbay or from some suppliers. The unlocked phones on Ebay were usuallyolder, reconditioned models. A third alternative would be to buy fromT-Mobile. After about a month on a 1-year contract (see below on themisinformation I got -- this is the answer I got from an employee whoseemed to have done it for a customer), T-Mobile will send you thecode to unlock the phone.Once the phone is unlocked (or was never locked) you can plug in theSIM chip from any other network, including any foreign network. Thus,if you go to a foreign country for a month or more you can buy a localpre-paid chip and get cheap local calling (and sometimes cheapercalling back to the US than offered by the US carrier of your choice).It is also possible to buy international pre-paid chips from varioussuppliers on the internet (or Ebay). These allow you an internationalphone number and calling plans. I am aware of such chips fromSwitzerland or Monte Carlo that are readily available in the US. Myown analysis of the rates offered by these chips/plans is that theyare roughly comparable to the international roaming rates offered byT-Mobile (which are actually quite good), but they offer the possibleadvantage of giving your phone a local number in Switzerland or MonteCarlo, which may be an advantage if you are in Europe for extendedperiods.Moreover, it is possible to purchase, for some phone models,alternative batteries or battery doors that allow you to have two ormore SIMs in the phone at the same time. Thus you could have yourregular phone number and a pre-paid local plan whereever you are, thusallowing cheap local calling, and possibly better rates to the US, andalso giving your local callers a local number to reach you. Thesedual-SIMs work so that when you have SIM A active, callers to SIM Bleave a message in your voice-mail (essentially, SIM B and the phoneassociated with it is not on the network).
