VMEbus - "Paul" wrote in messagenews:3f549a00$1@news.alphalink.com.au... Hi, I have an "Acer 56k Surf" and I am using an ISP called Alphalink. Until recently I have been a victim of frequent disconnecting. In order toavoid the disconnections I have had to untick "Use Error Control" in Modem > Properties > Connection > Advanced. The reasoning behind this was that in my "modem log" the error messagethat I was receiving was "Error-control off or unknown". Now with the settingsI get "Error-control on" and my connection is a lot more reliable. That sounds exactly the reverse of what is supposed to happen. Unchecking"Use error control" should disable error control. Though what I have noticed is that I am receiving both CRC errors and overrun errors. Now I can't remember whether I was receiving them beforehand, but does anyone have suggestions on how to eliminate them. I have a 16550 uart chip, I get 36600 speed connections, I have disabled compression. What other settings are left to change? Are you running Win98 or later? Or even Win2k? And, assuming this is anexternal modem, this is a unacknowledged glitch from Microsoft. The only wayyou can eliminate them is to install a 32byte buffered UART (16650) anddisable the existing ports.--Hooda Gest"In a New York minute, everything can change..."
