ISP Information:
Packet InterNet Groper. An Internet utility used to check the connection with another site. It repeatedly bounces a signal off the remote site and shows you how long it took to complete the round trip each time. If you get no returns at all, the site is either down or unreachable. If only a portion of the signals are returned, it indicates some trouble with the connection that will slow down performance. You can run PING ISP Glossary:
PING - USENIX/ACM Symposium on Networked Systems Design; Implementation (NSDI '04)March 29 - 31, 2004San Francisco, California, USAhttp://www.usenix.org/nsdi04/NSDI '04 is a new conference focused on the design principles oflarge-scale distributed and networked systems. We believe systems asdiverse as scalable Web services, peer-to-peer file sharing, sensornets, and distributed network measurement share a set of commonchallenges. Progress in any of these areas requires a deepunderstanding of how researchers are addressing the challenges oflarge-scale systems in other contexts. Our goal is to bring togetherresearchers from across the systems community -- including operatingsystems, distributed systems, and computer networking -- to foster across-disciplinary approach to addressing our common researchchallenges. NSDI will provide a high-quality, single-track forum forpresenting new results and discussing ideas that overlap thesedisciplines. The NSDI '04 Program Committee seeks work that furthers the knowledgeand understanding of the systems community as a whole, continues asignificant research dialog, or pushes the architectural boundaries oflarge-scale network services. We solicit papers describing originaland previously unpublished research and experiences. Specific topicsof interest include, but are not limited to:* Scalable techniques for high availability and reliability* Security and robustness of highly complex systems* Novel architectural approaches for specific application domains* Network measurements, workload and topology characterization* Autonomous and self-configuring network and system management* Network virtualization and resource management* Distributed storage, caching, and query optimization* Network protocols and algorithms for complex distributed systems* Operating system support for scalable network services* Relevant application or system experiences (e.g., in sensor nets, P2Psystems, overlays, pervasive computing)Important Dates:Paper titles and abstracts due: September 15, 2003Final paper submissions due: September 22, 2003Notification of acceptance: December 11, 2003Papers due for shepherding: January 26, 2004Camera-ready final papers due: February 9, 2004For more information, please visit http://www.usenix.org/nsdi04/.We look forward to receiving your submissions!Robert Morris, MITStefan Savage, UCSDProgram Chairs
