For years I've been trying one drip machine after another but just can't seem to make that good cup on a consistent basis. The new home cafe machines caught my eye and of course, I thought maybe, finally at last, I might be able to make a good cup. So two weeks ago, I bought the Mr. Coffee home cafe unit and it made absolutely horrid coffee. I couldn't even give it away at work (no lie) it made such terriblecoffee.I'm not a coffee drinker but how technical can this be? Hot water drippedthrough the coffee ground. I can't imagine that machines are that different.Perhaps it was the coffee that was not good to start with. So I then purchased another blender, not the sunbeam of course [fool once perhaps, not twice]...so bought the cheapo Hamilton Beach unit, again at WalMart. Well, this one didn't burn up, but it's functionality was absolutely dismal. It would not even chop up ice for instance, a vital 'function' for making smoothies. After about a week of wrestling withthis unit to make anything other than baby pablum, I got frustrated today and just tossed it into the garbage.I'm sure some will disagree but I fail to see any reason for ice in asmoothy except that it makes for a cheaper drink. Here are two ways I liketo make smoothies that would work in any blender:Pineapple juice, strawberries and yogurt or yogurt, frozen strawberries andmilk. Sometimes I'll add some honey just because I currently think it's thecure-all food :) In all, I'm out about $100. But what really angers me is that companiescan put 'junk' on the market no matter what price they attach to it. These items had no minimal 'function' to begin with. And I still can't makegood coffee and 'smoothies' are apparently out of my 'class' range [I justcan't justify much more than $20 for a blender...I'll just never use it yousee]. So, I'm at least going to get my ounce of bitching in....Your point is valid... but... what did you think you would be getting for$15? Think about the parts and labor in that item adding up to about $3 (therest is the profit).Your best bet, if on a buget, is to stop by a garage sale. Someone is alwaysselling a blender! Usually it's an old blender back from when they put tankengines in them!
