ISP Information:
The set of colors used in a picture or on a computer screen. Older computers typically used only 16 colors. Modern ones use at least 256 colors, which can be coded by 8 bits of information. With advanced color cards and monitors 65.5 thousand colors (16-bit) or 16 million colors (24-bit) are used. Different web browsers and computer platforms do not necessarily use identical palettes. There is a set of 216 colors that ar ISP Glossary:

Those are the simple questions.Mark G wrote: Thank you all for your suggestions - I'll do some testing tonight. A few other questions. I've got a multimeter & soldering iron but I'm a novice with each. To summarize what I've heard, my best bet is to isolate the problem to either the 1) modem, 2) the phone line/jack in my house, or 3) some external wiring. To isolate the modem I can use the ohm test. If that fails I could look at replacing the modem or perhaps repairing it...in the case of a circuit that must be resoldered, this should be obvious to me which has been disconnected? If the modem seems to test out OK, them I should test the line/jack. I could do this by repeating the ohm test from the other end of the line with the modem plugged in, or perhaps by plugging my modem into another phone jack and seeing if the problem persists? I think my phone lines are all wired independently to a punch-down block in the basement...not sure if that matters.
