ISP Information:

This is a standard for cable modems that was ratified by the ITU in March 1998. Before DOCSIS, cable modems made by one brand would not necessarily work on all cable systems. It supports data delivery up to 27Mbps. DOCSIS-compliant cable modems can be upgraded to new DOCSIS versions with a programmable EEPROM.

Recently, I've made 2 connections about 1 hour apart to the same serverto download the same zipped file over the same ISP, and the connection parameters all looked the same but transfer speed in the first one was3 times higher!! What's the explanation for that please? There's nothing in your modem log that would explain anything like that.Offthe top of my head, I might suggest that the data you downloaded in thefirst call was much more compressible than the data you downloaded in thesecond. My understanding is that the OP has tested a single "zipped" file. If this is the case, then compression can't be an issue. Of course, I'm assuming that the OP understands that the transfer rates reported in the modemlog are the download/upload rates for the entire dialup session, not just for this particular file. Presumably he/she has timed the transfers correctly.I try not to presume those things. There was major difference between thetwo data amounts and the speeds reported in session 1 were way beyond whatcould be expected for compressed data while the 2nd session showed ratesthat were in accordance with the speed the modem initially connected at.At this point, it is up to the O.P. to fill in the details.--Hooda Gest"In a New York minute, everything can change..."
