"Mr. Cheap" wrote in message news:f830999d.0312081747.42cf84c6@posting.google.com... I picked up this really old Courier modem this week. Is there a flash rom upgrade available for this model, which would allow 33.6kbps operation? No. I believe it needs one more daughterboard change Are you sure of that? The modem in question is described as "V.34 ready", and IIRC, V.FC was USR's proprietary 28k8 protocol, pending final development and approval of v.34, similar to the later relationshipbetween X2 and v.90 Under that combination of circumstances, I wouldn't expect a daughterboard to have been needed.I am reasonably sure since I upgraded two from their original life asV.32bis to v.terbo to V.34 to x2 to V.90. The v.terbo model was alsodescribed that way but needed a different daughterboard. If the modem isalready V.34 capable (meaning it shows up in the Options line of the ati7query) then it has the right daughterboard. and then, ofcourse, you'd have to get an unlocking software "key" from USR to enable the firmware once you load it. IIRC, the only such "key" USR ever required was for the upgrade to56K (X2/v.90). All he's looking for is to be able to use 33k6, what USR calls v.34+. If I'm correct, then any flash upgrade after support for 33k6 was added should work. I have both the 4/29/96 and 9/20/96 upgrades here, and could e-mail either of them to him if he can't find a usable upgrade somewhere else.If you are correct then of course it will work. If you are incorrect, itshould fail to upgrade but probably will not hurt anything.I wish you were correct about this and I would like to be wrong but Isuspect I am right.--Hooda Gest"The only thing I do immediately is procrastinate."
