PowerNow! - Had reservations for a hotel for a pre-Christmas trip to Disney World. Madethe reservations in advance via the national chain's website. (Wyndham, forthe Wyndham Palace in Orlando.) (This is an upscale resort hotel.) I paidextra to get a room with a king bed and a high speed Internet connection. Ialso paid in advance, and we are members of Wyndham's frequent guestprogram. The reservation was made in October, and confirmed both in earlyDecember and on the day of arrival. Each time our accomodations wereconfirmed as per our reservation. When my wife and I arrived at the hotel, we were told that they had no roomsof the sort reserved still available. We'd have to settle for a room with 2doublebeds with no Internet connection. When I showed our reservationconfirmation to the check in clerk I was told "The room attributes are onlyyour preferences. We assign you to whatever room we have available whenyouarrive."I later confirmed with the hotel chain that their is no statement of theabove on their web site, however apparently each property sets their ownspecific policies. (The national office was very vague in giving me adefinite answer on this.) Any statement about this is found nowhere on thechain's website or on the individual hotel's website. Our reservationconfirmation clearly says Deluxe King Room with the various amenitieslisted. After hearing the above from the clerk I asked to speak with the manager. She left the desk for about 10 minutes and when she returned she handed us aset of room keys. No other comments. I asked her what these were and shesaid "We found you a king room."At this point my wife took the luggage to the room while I parked the car. When I returned my wife was standing outside of the room in tears. The roomwe had been assigned was already occupied, and she walked in on anothercouple in bed. All 3 people were very embarassed. When I went to the desk to fill them in on the problem they said "Oh"--noapology or anything else similar--and tried to find us another room. Thesecond room we were assigned was a room with 2 double beds and no Internetservice--or even phone service. The room was definitely different thanothers we had been in at the property (we've stayed her before), and seemedto be in disrepair. The phone cords were pulled out of the wall under thedesk. When we told the bellman that this room was unacceptable, he called the deskand we spoke with a person who indicated he was the General Manager. Hedidn't sound like someone in that position, so twice I confirmed with himthat he was the GM of the property. When I explained our problem to him, heindicated that he would give us one night free of our stay. He also saidthey could find us another room with two double beds. I explained to himthat we had prepaid. He said, "That's OK. We won't charge you." I kepttrying to explain to him that they already had our money and asked him howthis would be handled. He said he'd take care of it. I asked him if hewould put this in writing so that we would not have a problem in the futurewhen we checked out. He refused and said that I was being "difficult." Hesaid that if we didn't just take the room he had for us, he'd call thepolice and have us removed from the property. He was very threatening anddemeaning in our conversation with him, and although I was insistent, Inever was unprofessional in my dealings with him.Since it was now 1 a.m. during Christmas season in a very busy city, we tookthe room he had. He did say that they'd try to move us to a different roomthe next day if one came available. Fortunately, it did.Unfortunately, the entire beginning experience put quite a damper on ourholiday stay. We never felt comfortable in the property, and it seemed asif the hotel front desk staff was doing things to spite us during our stay.(Example..._every_ day of our stay our room keys stopped working at noon. Each time I'd have to go down to the desk and get new room keys. Given thelines and speed of the desk workers, this would take at l
