ISP Information:
This describes a set of rules developed to attempt to solve problems when a specific algorithm cannot be designed. For example, if the problem is "When do you eat food?", if you answer, "When I'm hungry" then you would have to eat immediately every single time you were hungry. Instead, we follow heuristics to determine when to eat by gauging our hunger level, the situation we are in, and our ability to get food. As you c ISP Glossary:
Heuristics - In article <8vbue09u0a7t20jsglrjkff2805ob7787f@4ax.com>,SkyPilot wrote: I am the communications officer for a mid-sized city fire department. We are looking at the two companies that offer the "Push-To-Talk" technology cell phones. There are a lot of pros and cons for both companies. Verizon has the largest "foot print" of any cell company. Nextel's PTP system uses a separate pathway from the cell system. Verizon uses the same as cell. Nextel's PTP functions almost immediately. Verizon's takes about 1.5 to 3 seconds to connect. Nextel's plans are slightly cheaper than Verizon. There are a lot of variables to consider. I personally lean toward Verizon because the city already has a contract with them and our IT department administers the contract. If we go to Nextel, the FD (me!!) will have to administer the contract. So, I was looking for any horror or good stories about both companies.Bottom line: make the decision based on the reception quality. We havesomething like 200 Nextel phones in the department where I work. Thegreat irony is that when I was out on vacation in the middle of a remotedesert area in Utah, a colleague back in Philadelphia was able to radiome with crystal clear reception, but when I sit in my office, thereception quality on my Nextel phone is nearly non-existent. It is notuncommon for people in my department to walk to a particular window inthe main hallway in our office suite to use their Nextel phone becauseits a strong-point for reception. This includes both reception on thewalkie-talkie feature and the regular cell phone feature.Try to get a pair of demo phones from Nextel and Verizon and try themout as thoroughly as you can before you make a decision.
