Windows Management Instrumentation - "Andy Kir" wrote in messagenews:bromb2$raj$1@mozo.cc.purdue.edu... Nope, only a phone and one modem share this line - should be all right. Again, the other computer worked with the same line just fine. Whatstrikes me is that both computers with call waiting problems have essentially the same modem (it seems that USR softmodems are similar to Conexant). Other ideas? That was my other thought. Call Waiting feature transmits some FSKinformation down your phone line between the first and second ring (whilethe phone is on-hook) - which amounts to a voltage being on the twistedpair. The modems may not like the fact that they're not seeing a "clean"line, even while on-hook. Maybe the manufacturer can verify this, or youcould find out online. I would suggest as a next step to swap out the knowngood modem with one of the PCs with the non-functioning modem, and see ifthe problem goes away. If so, it's the modems. If the problem remains, then it's something to do with the PC.
