MegaFlop - My big question is: Is it standard electric company procedure to suddenly revise 9 months worth of bills and demand like this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! It is standard in the UK energy market for bills to be estimated and thiscan go on for up to 7 quarters worth of bills with the eighth one being anactual reading. Energy companies only have to do a reading once every 2years, however the majority of them do do them more often, like once a year. The problem with estimated bills is that they are worked out on an averageof your 'normal' usage, so if you have a change in circumstance then thiswill probably not be reflected in your current bill and for maybe the nextone or two. Most energy companies will allow you to submit your own reading when therehas been an estimate and will then send you a revised bill. Alternatively,if you are on an annual fixed payment plan, then they won't actually sendyou a revised bill but use your own reading to work out the average for thenext bill. There has been a lot of critism recently about energy companies over andunder estimating bills, but I suspect a lot of people don't worry about ittoo much because they know eventually it will straighten out. However, theproblems seem to be where bills are consistently under estimated, and whenthe meter is finally read the user gets a whopping great bill. Also, thereare those companies who have been accused of consistently over estimatingbills and customers simply pay the bill without checking it. The energycompanies obviously get a cash advantage of holding it's customers money, however, it would be nice to think that this was used to help keep costsdown, rather than lining the pockets of the company shareholders and theBoard of Directors.
