ISP Information:
A transport protocol developed by IBM in 1985 for small and medium networks. It is the underlying foundation of NetBIOS. NetBEUI today can be compared to IPX/SPX and TCP/IP. NetBEUI is efficient for small workgroups, but is not routable, and is a more broadcast-based protocol than IPX or TCP/IP, clogging the network with packets if you have more than 20 machines. It does not scale well. ISP Glossary:
NetBEUI - Many thanks for the response! The reason that I was trying to find outis I am installing a smc router/firewall that allows you to use aserial modem. One has to enter the proper initialization string in therouters config to get your modem to dial out. I think the AT&F1 willwork for my needs (hopefully) :)Thanks Again!Albert GarciaOn Mon, 14 Jul 2003 20:02:05 GMT, "Hooda Gest" wrote:"Albert Garcia" wrote in messagenews:0dr5hv8ji4ol5h2qeqvas9emlbkj7aret5@4ax.com... Does anyone know a simple way of finding out the exact init string being used to initialize a us robotics 5605-00 external modem on windows 2000. I have checked the usr website with no luck. Ant replies would be greatly appreciated. In the INF file, you will find a "recommended" init string. But the onlystring actually needed is AT&F1 for any OS other than the Mac (and it's notthe Mac's OS that needs the change, it is the Mac serial port configurationthat dictates it). When you install the modem properly, the init string will take care ofitself.Once installed, the init string used will be found in the modem log afterthe first use. Or in the Registry if you wish to dig through that (searchfor AT&F)
