ISP Information:
In some architectures, such as Socket 7, the speed of the backside bus determined how fast the microprocessor could talk to its external L2 cache. Newer architectures, such as Slot 1 and most architectures today, have a dedicated L2 cache bus (or dedicated on-chip L2 cache), and a backside bus is no longer required at all. ISP Glossary:
Backside Bus - An open-source scheme would impose a computational "cost" on junkmailers while leaving legitimate users of e-mail alone.By Eric S. Johansson and Keith DawsonOver the past few months, major players in the world of e-mail haveproposed schemes for combating the rising tide of spam. In December, for example, Yahoo! proposed an approach called DomainKeys forvalidating which messages come from which e-mail servers. In January, speaking to journalists at the World Economic Forum in Davos,Switzerland, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates suggested using asender-pays system, with money-based e-mail stamps. And at the RSAsecurity conference in February, Gates touted as a spam solutionMicrosoft's Caller ID-a variation on the Sender Policy Framework(SPF), which is an anti-spoofing technique that reduces the ability tofalsify "From" addresses in e-mail messages.Unfortunately, upon close examination these techniques turn out to beunworkable or ineffective. They represent centralized solutions thatserve the needs of large Internet service providers and, lessdirectly, of large advertisers. Such ideas would be only marginallyeffective against spam. Worse, they would break services users counton.http://www.technologyreview.com/articles/wo_johansson032604.asp
