ISP Information:
A value that is calculated from a group of data and often passed along with the data when it is transferred. The receiver of the data will compare it to the checksum, and if it doesn't match the receiver knows the data was corrupted in transit. Checksums are used in all types of data communication, such as reading data from hard drives, CDs, floppies, modem communications, and networking. ISP Glossary:
