The act of updating one set of data based on another similar set which may be more up to date. Synchronization can go one way or two ways, and follows a set of rules defined by the synchronization procedure. Synchronization is often used to update data such as address book data on PDAs, or e-mail on laptops that may not always be connected to the office e-mail server.
