This is much like a CD-ROM except that it stores over 7 times as much data in its simplest form. DVD is the successor to CD-ROM technology. DVD discs are the same size physically as CD-ROM discs, but hold between 4.7-18 GB of data using dual-layer and double-sided discs. Digital Variable/Versatile/Video Disc - In article , ptownson@telecom-digest.org says: Lately I have seen commercials on television for an ISP known as 'NetZero'which invite me to take the 'Netzero Challenge'. According to those people, you can 'surf the net at up to five times faster than regular dialup', and they sell it for $14.95 per month. Does anyone know what they are doing? The various 56-K dialups around town are all brokering through TerraWorld under various names, but I wonder what NetZero does that makes them 'up to five times faster than regular dialup'. Any ideas? PATMost likely they provide some combination of a download accelerator, which prefetches pages linked from the page you're reading, andcaching of degraded graphics, for faster browsing speed. In otherwords, they can indeed make it possible to surf the net faster thanusing a normal browser and ISP, at the cost of poorer qualitygraphics. (One could also speed the web browsing experience byturning off graphics or using a text-only browser, but this would alsoresult in a pretty boring looking page.) The one thing they can't dois make your actual downloads faster.Michael D. SullivanBethesda, MD, USADelete nospam from my address and it won't work.
