Trapezoidal Control - Art thanks again! That is very kind of you to offer. The product code on this puppy is: 80-005605-00.I am in touch with USR on this now (but no solution offered so far)and they ALSO needed the product code!! Go figure. I surely agreewith your comment. It is amazing. This modem has both serial and USB ports. There are two firmwareversions I know of. The earlier version supports USB poorly to not atall, but supports the serial port well. The more recent firmwareversion supports USB OK, but offers degraded performance on the serialport (JMHO). I am running with the serial port so am using now theearlier firmware.FrankArt Jackson wrote in message news:... Frank Walker wrote: (Art's post is reproduced below) Art thanks. I really thought that was going to work (sadly it did not). Just discovered somebody else had earlier posted re the need to send together _BOTH_ the "&Uxx" AND the "&Nxx" commands. Maybe I'm gonna have to run this one past USR. And since they appear all but to have disowned this 0525 modem (maybe an "NIH" problem?), it could be tough sledding. What is the Product Code on your modem. I never could figure out why USR used model numbers on modems, since all their files and docs are referenced to the modem's Product Code. I have never seen a cross reference from model number to Product Code. Look on the Bar Code for a number like 00568603 or similar. With that maybe I can find an update for the firmware on USR's FTP site. This can befollowed by a failure to verify username/password or just failure ingeneral (e.g., dropped connection). So I have been including "&N24" in my init string to limit connectspeed to 37,333. This seems to be a good compromise for my location.Have followed this procedure with my USR Sportster (external) withsome success. But now am trying to use a USR/3COM Voice Faxmodem Pro (alsoexternal). This is a model 0525. Spent hours seeking to locate thecommand codes for this modem and ended up e-mailing USR for help (noreply yet). But as best I could determine the "&N24" should work tolimit connect speed with this 0525 modem, as it does with theSportster. But it is not working with the 0525. Regardless "&N24" in the initstring the darn thing connects at 44,000. This morning it evenconnected above 46,000 once! The outcomes of connections at thesespeeds are often negative.I have checked the log and the 0525 modem is acknowledging (with an"OK") receipt of "&N24". Also there are no commands being issuedsubsequently. If anyone could suggest why this is not working and what to try next Iwould be most grateful. I need a way to limit the 0525 connect speed.BTW the 0525 modem is running under Windows ME. Installation wasstraightforward as ME has support built in for this modem. Aside from"&N24", my init string contains a "stay connected" segment,S7=70S10=255. This portion of the init string appears to function OK,and has generally positively impacted my ability to remain connected.ThanksFrankThere were some USR models that failed to respond to the speed settingcommands. Maybe USR has later firmware that fixed that, I don't know. You could try setting a range, ( &U10 &N24 ) and see if that works. Ifthat fails also, try using only V.34 by adding S32=98 (V.90), S32=130(V.92), in Extra Settings. If you are getting V.90 speeds in the 30's,then you may find better throughput in V.34 mode. Good luck.
