ISP Information:
The first sector on a hard disk or other disk media. When a computer boots up it searches for a master boot record wherever the BIOS tells it to (usually the master hard drive on the first IDE channel, but this can also be checked for in CD/DVD drives and floppy drives) and, based on what the master boot record says, loads up an operating system. Thus, if the master boot record becomes corrupt or is tampered with by a vi ISP Glossary:
Boot Record - "Zbigniew Lisiecki" wrote in messagenews:bluveg$onk$1@news.onet.pl... Hi, my U.S.Robotics 56K Faxmodem connects corectly to the internet under WindowsXP each time i try, but under Linux/wvdial the sequence: --> Sending: ATZ --> Sending: ATQ0 OK --> Re-Sending: ATZ OK --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ --> Sending: ATQ0 ATH0 OK --> Re-Sending: ATZ ATZ OK --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ ATZ OK --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2+FCLASS=0 ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2+FCLASS=0 OK --> Modem initialized. --> Idle Seconds = 300, disabling automatic reconnect. --> Sending: ATDT0202122 // this is the Internet phone number in mycountry --> Waiting for carrier. the dial signal, which i can hear ! breaks down ! I did succede to connect twice, but i cannot reproduce it now ! The register contents (ATI4) is the same in WindowsXP and Linux. The init string was chosen automaticly by wvdialconf. What might be the cause ?ATZ resets the modem to a previously saved configuration in profile 0. It isnot recommended to be used unless you are certain of that configuration. Ifthe profile has not been written to since the modem was purchased, or waswritten to AT&F1, then it can be used but so can AT&F1 whichis much safer. &F1 is the USR factory default hardware flow controlconfiguration.S0=0 Q0 E1 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 are all defaults under &F1The first thing I would do is change from ATZ to AT&F1Then I would start again.Dial tone should disappear when dialing is initiated so I don't know whatyou mean by the dialing signal breaking down. If you mean the tones sentsound like they are breaking up or are garbled, I don't really know whatthat means either. Using a terminal program (minicom?), can you access anddial successfully?--Hooda Gest"In a New York minute, everything can change..."
