RMON2 - Can someone explain for me the benefits of using the walkie-talkiefeature of the Nextel system? Other than possible use on a jobsite, where a foreman might need to coordinate instructions with a group ofworkers in different positions,First of all, chances are he wouldn't be able to coordinate anything becausethey would be in any number of Nextels numerous and wide ranging (mile) deadspots. You can be ten feet apart but if the signal to the cell site is weak, the walkie talkie feature won't work. Worse yet, ifthe signal is weak thetransmission comes through as garbled and unreadable. So mucg for the BS of adigital signal either being there or not.For places like Disneyland, WalMart, etc, a handful of FRS radioswould do the job just fine for keeping tabs on the kids - and a wholelot less painful if they go off and leave a walkie-talkie in therestroom.FRS radios are a much better choice since it is distance between the radiosthat is the limiting factor. With Nextel, it is the distance to the cell sitethat is the limiting factor and with many dead spots over many miles it soonbecomes a useless item. Forget breaking down on the hiway as most of it is inthe dead zone of Nextel in my town.
